NES World Championships is the least appealing thing to me as a gamer. It's just samples of common games. You could buy the full games CIB and still have a lot to spare. I know some might want it for nostalgia or the history behind it but nothing about it appeals to me.
A bootleg Neo Geo game on DC excites me more.
Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
1) Final Fantasy 7 is overhyped and the worst of the ps1 final fantasy games, I did enjoy the game but liked 8 and 9 considerably more.
2) No matter how many times I tried, I could never have fun playing ocarina of time, in fact the only 3d zelda game that held my interest long enough to finish is wind waker, until breath of the wild of course.
3) Double Dragon 3 is my favorite nes double dragon
4) I genuinely enjoyed ET for atari 2600, granted I was around 6 years old when I played it, but I did really like that game.
5) I loved Mighty no 9
6) Duke Nukem forever is not nearly as bad as people would have you believe, its not a great game, but for what it was, I had fun playing it.
7) I enjoyed Raiden as a main character in MGS2, on the same note I utterly despised MGS 3 and 5
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 > the original genesis trilogy
9) The original TMNT on nes was a much better game than its sequels, as a kid I did enjoy the other 2 more than the 1st, but as an adult I appreciate the original far more than its sequels.
10) Resident evil 6 is a fantastic game that took the series in a really fun new direction and made you feel like you were part of a zombie apocalypse in a way that no other game in the series managed to do.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Actually I think he's onto something with Resident Evil perhaps, but Sonic..NO, just no. SA1+2 I liked more than anything after them 2D or 3D, but it doesn't top the old Genesis series at all. Along with the rest of his strange comments on what was good in games too more or less.
FF7 was average, FF8 was awful, but FF9 was a nice masterpiece send off for PS1 for the franchise.
RE though I never liked, the locked cameras shifting how controls aim you by screen. Moving like a sloppy tank. Never enough ammo or the rest to get by, so you had to fight the horrid controls/camera to not get chewed on dodging. Cap it off with some horribly obtuse puzzles on the level of the garbage found on those mid 80s Shadowgate and friends KEMCO games and it's just crap. If it wasn't zombies and bioterror making it seem so cool it would probably been forgotten garbage instead of how Alone in the Dark went down the tubes being replaced by the franchise. RE Revelations which I know 6 handles kind of like I do enjoy. Controls and camera that aren't garbage, puzzles and situations that make sense, and not always having to fight the game more than play the game is a winner to me.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I just never enjoyed the 2d sonic games, I did own sonic 1 and 2 as a kid and played through sonic 3 about a year ago but I just never had much fun with those games. They just never hooked me the way mario did, or any number of other platformers of that era. I always felt like the hook of sonic games was the speed, but unless you memorized the levels there was not a great opportunity to use that speed.
Sonic adventure 1 and 2 just felt alot faster and more fun to me, I realize that is not a popular opinion of course, but that is the name of the thread.

Probably one of my earliest contributions to this thread was the same opinion. It just never clicked with me. It's not like I didn't try to like it or that I actively set out to dislike it or anything.2) No matter how many times I tried, I could never have fun playing ocarina of time,
It's not a great game by any standard, I think the general gaming community has sort of softened on it in recent years. If you know what you're doing it's certainly playable and even beatable.4) I genuinely enjoyed ET for atari 2600, granted I was around 6 years old when I played it, but I did really like that game.
Really, when you put Mighty No. 9 next to its Mega Man peers it would be far from the best but also far from the worst. It is what it is, another "Mega Man" game, warts and all. My beef with it was not receiving my backer awards, which are now finally on the way, but I always thought the game was decent and I really enjoyed playing through it as Ray who I thought was way more fun than Beck. I also dug her Getter Robo inspired look.5) I loved Mighty no 9
Outside of the driving stuff I agree.6) Duke Nukem forever is not nearly as bad as people would have you believe, its not a great game, but for what it was, I had fun playing it.
I don't like Metal Gear Solid at all. *dodges rocks*7) I enjoyed Raiden as a main character in MGS2, on the same note I utterly despised MGS 3 and 5
While I... let's just say strongly disagreeSonic Adventure 1 and 2 > the original genesis trilogy
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Mighty no 9 can suck a cancerous left nut. As a Backer, they pissed me off. As a game, it's a steaming pile of shit. It's lazy, uninspired level design. Horrible visuals. They showed a 30-second clip early in the development of it running on UE3 and looked great. How often is it a game looks worse as the game goes on in development? Well aside from modern AAA games. Everything was a fiasco in how they treated fans. I have the game on my shelf and still pissed my full name is in the credits. It's like a lazy mobile game ripping off Mega Man but not understanding Mega Man at all.

1. I couldn't agree more with this statement. FF7 is a good game in its way but is way too hyped and yes 8 & 9 are both superior games.pook99 wrote:1) Final Fantasy 7 is overhyped and the worst of the ps1 final fantasy games, I did enjoy the game but liked 8 and 9 considerably more.

2.I loved Ocarina of Time as a kid, only nostalgia still holds it up in my mind. Wind Waker is better in every way.
3.NO. DD2 bebe
8.No way. The og sonic trilogy on genesis are fantastically crafted platformers that demand speed and precision. They were the perfect counterpoint to Mario back in the day and they still are today.
9. I've learned to appreciate the first game much more over time but it can not be understated how amazing The Manhattan Project is.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I actually agree with this. Honestly, Sonic Adventure 2 was just not good in my opinion, whilst I did enjoy SA1 more and found it a far more charming game.Gunstar Green wrote:While I... let's just say strongly disagreeSonic Adventure 1 and 2 > the original genesis trilogy
... I still think Sonic Adventure 1 is a fun and charming game. I couldn't really stand Sonic Adventure 2 and only beat it for the first time a year or two ago when I forced myself to finish it. That in itself is an unpopular opinion since it seems to be a lot of people's favorite 3D Sonic.
People give SA1 shit for the hub world and things like Big the Cat's levels, but I don't really get it when those same people praise SA2.
For a start, I prefer that SA1 lets you play through the character's levels in more or less any order you want. Don't feel like playing Big's levels? No problem, concentrate on someone else's for the time being. The 'character gimmick' levels are also far less obnoxious and it feels like there's less of them. There's only the robot's shooting levels and there's only about 3 or 4 of them. Big only has about 3 levels. Same with Amy and Knuckles (think the max any of them have is about 5?). Tails' levels play just like a simpler version of Sonic's, which is nice for kids.
As for the hub world, I actually found it quite charming and it really wasn't much of a chore.
SA2 on the other hand forces you to play all the levels in the order they want you to. Don't feel like playing a stupid shooting level? Well tough shit, because you have to play it and you have to play it right now. Tails and Eggman's levels were just reskins of the robot levels from SA1, except there was more of them. The Knuckles and Rouge levels were significantly more cumbersome and irritating in SA2 than in the first game (and again, there was more of them ugh).
The level design also didn't feel better in the second game. The first level in the city is iconic, but other than that, I didn't really enjoy any of the levels that matter (i.e. Sonic's and Shadow's) more than Sonic's in the first game.
