Yes it is strange and unusual that I use my hockey gloves while doing yard work, but in 1998 I paid nearly $300 for the pair, and dog gone it I'm going to get my money's worth.

Plus, wayyyy more comfortable (and masculine) than gardener's gloves, and I am strange and unusual.

That's the one. I thought it died out with the backstreet boys; apparently not. Still, it's a better than people gong back to wearing visors and wife beaters.

It's common around here, with these big ass buckles all the rodeo guys and some of us FFA guys wear. Of course, showing off your fancy buckles is always fun.

And, I personally like wife beaters. They're comfy.

I might wear that, but all the big time "bull riders" (bastards that couldn't stay on one even if they were superglued on... dumbasses) and ropers (assholes who are too good to do any actual work from their horse) wouldnt' get that.

So, I'm sure many of you know about my MazdaSpeed3. Well thing is, my dad was originally planning to sign it over to me once it's payed off. It made me a bit upset though. I love the car, no doubt about that. To me though, having a car symbolizes independence and freedom, something I feel it doesn't when it's just handed over. I ended up talking with him for a while trying to get him to understand what I meant. I finally got him to agree to let me buy my first car in my name instead of signing the Mazda over to me. That probably sounds strange to some people, turning down an awesome car like that. It's just I'd prefer to have a car that I worked and payed for that's mine. Some would probably ask why I don't just buy the car from him? Well, I don't have $21,000 and probably wont for a very long time.

So, my plan is to save up about $7,500-8,000 and buy my own car by the end of this Fall.

Thinking on getting a nice 300zx Z32 NA or possibly a Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 (which is actually awd and would be great considering where I live).

I'll get to drive the Mazda till that point so I'll have had a good 2 years of fun in it anyway.

Get a crapbucket and drive that. My first car (now my wife's) is a 1988 Honda Civic I bought for $1200 and I love it so much more because of the fact that it wasn't just something I went to a dealer and rolled off the lot. It's a unique and harder to spot vehicle that's reliable, cheap to maintain and holds it's (currently rising) value very well.

Nobody around our age (16-20) remotely needs to be driving anything worth $7k-$10k outside of certain circumstances. It'll get dinged and scuffed up and things are going to happen. Luckily with an older car the repairs are cheap and don't necessitate a trip to the dealer.

Not to mention that an older car will truly teach you to dive better and more sharply as it won't provide you as many luxuries and comforts as a newer model except power steering or A/C for the most part.

^^^ I'd love to have a car like that myself. Small '80s and early '90s cars are the best, IMO, which is funny because my parents think those sorts of cars are laughably ugly.

A 300zx Z32 is a good 20 years old now. My dad works on them and can teach me everything I need to know about them. We own 2 and I've already done a bit of work on them already. They're also extremely cheap to maintain. Insurance will be cheap (around 60 or so dollars a month).

Also, I've driven many cars on the speedway without assists, in dry and wet, I'm not a bad driver by any means. I actually despise traction control and DSC when I'm trying to drive enthusiastically. I appreciate them in the snow, but it's certainly not a requirement for me. Power steering, AC, radio, and a manual transmission are all I really need as far as conveniences. (Airbags are also nice. Also I hate automatics)

I'm also extremely anal about condition of the vehicles I drive. Unlike a lot of teenagers, I try to take care of my stuff. That said, I'm a bit of a motorhead, and refuse to buy a "crapbucket". Door dings and wear are a part of life I understand, but I minimize them by parking as far away from the store as I need too, washing and vacuuming every week etc.

Sure I don't need to drive a 7k dollar car. I want to though, and more importantly, I'm paying for it.
