Yeah, Quackshot is excellent--already on my greatest Mega Drive games list.

hmm.. my contra is in a clamshell

nice score either way.

Late Genesis games were often re-released in soft cardboard box cases as a cost-cutting measure, so there are clamshell and cardboard box releases for a fair number of Genesis titles.

Here's a topic discussing this

I managed to score a complete Virtual Boy this week. The real prize was the games I got though.

Wario Land
TeleroBoxer
Galactic Pinball
Panic Bomber
and most importantly Jack Bros! (US)!

They had no idea how rare the game was so I was able to score it for 40 bucks. I managed to grab all of it for about $150. It sure was funny taking it with me to the 3DS midnight launch.

Yet another Gamestop run.

PS2 Taito Legends - $2.99
http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/games/taito-legends/41075

After checking online, only two stores that were in the county had it in stock. Crap, a very long drive for a three dollar game. The first store only had the game disc, so I broke my code of complete games only and bought it. A quick call to my Retro store at both locations turned up nothing, employee there said it rarely comes in and Retro Collections sell quickly whenever they do get one. The second Gamestop further north also only had the game disc with a lot of scratches. After driving for almost an hour, I said the hell with it, bought that one too. My thought is if a bad disc, I don't want to make this drive again until the dreaded GBA sale. Might as well buy both and refund the extra, once I test the game.

Gamestop Haul 03-20-2011 a.jpg

Both Gamestops were gracious to let me get a PS2 case off the shelf for the disc only game purchases. After I got home, tested both game discs, installed with no errors with HDAdvance. Going the direct install method confirms of bad sectors on the game discs. Even the scratched up disc installed and ran fine with no errors.

For all the trouble of the marathon commute, I decided to keep both copies. I'll keep the extra game tucked inside the yellow envelope with my Taito Legends 2 game. Turned on its side, fits right with the game book. Eventually if a complete Taito Legends ever turns up at Gamestop, I'll buy a third one and refund, keeping the book, cover and original case. I think that is fair, since I already bought two incomplete copies.

The second Gamestop also had a complete used copy of PS2 Kim Possible, but dammit the disc had the dreaded swirl marks. I could have bought it and then exchanged at another Gamestop, but the swirl marks might void a swap. I already asked for an empty case for Taito Legends, shoulda asked for that one too.

Can PS2 discs be removed while still spinning in the slim?

While I was way out in the sticks, I saw a Radio Shack two doors down. I remember reading over at Digital Press about PS2 controllers being clearanced out, sure enough bought two Sony brand PS2 controllers for $5.97 each!

In the interim I printed up a cover with the empty PS2 case Gamestop gave me. Thanks to search of Google images I found the front and back of the cover insert. I used the end of another game then copy and pasted both "Taito" and "Legends" off the front cover. A simple rotate and resize to fit on the end.

my Logitech wireless PS2 controller came in. It was broken. It would just shut itself off, and refuse to turn back on unless I took the batteries out and reset the game after about 5 mins of playing. Fucking eBay. Sigh.

Blah Ha Ha Ha Ha!

I finally found Kim Possible after hitting two more Gamestop stores, ironically both are lot closer to where I live. In my earlier hunt of another game, how did I miss these earlier?

PS2 Kim Possible Whats the Switch - $5.99
http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/games/kim-possible-whats-the-switch/60809

Brand new its only $9.99, okay so I saved four bucks. I probably burned up more gas looking the other day. After confirming online for availability, to even up this purchase and a little exercise, I rode my bicycle over to both nearby Gamestops. First store only had a fine scratched disc, bought it anyways, employee graciously let me have a PS2 brand case. The Gamestop right across the street, had two good copies and two complete matching original case, cover insert and manuals! Employee let me swap out and keep the extra case. Yes, there are good Employees at Gamestop, just have to build up a good rapport. I drove over an hour the other day, well it was for Taito Legends.

Don’t write this one off just because it’s based on a Disney kids TV series. Every so often a Disney-licensed game manages to surprise us with solid gameplay. If you are a fan of 16-bit platformers, this Kim Possible installment should impress you with its two-dimensional gamplay coated and cartoony 3D graphics. The difficulty level isn’t too high since its aimed for kids, but there is a challenge in trying to unlock everything.

I already have the GBA version, which is a great platform game. On the PS2 version, I get the impressions of the animation in Alien Hominid and a very precise control of Mario gameplay with Earthworm Jim way cool gadgets. Ignore the cutsey Disney cut scenes and enjoy a really great platformer with very tight controls. When you press jump, you jump very well. When you fall, you did it.

Bah! This game is one of the few that won't work with HDAdvance/HDLoader. Ah well, the install at least verified that there are no errors on the disc. I can play it the old fashioned way, by putting the original disc in the tray.
