Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I'm surprised you are interested in this machine Darsparx, I thought you hated emulation.
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Not fully emulation if you use carts, and I'm only interested now because I'm running out of space for consoles with my current living arrangements(and honestly don't know how much higher or crafty i can get with my stacking of consoles). I'll probably end up selling the thing down the road if i do get one but to save space beside the tv with consoles it's odd how much of a good idea it's starting to sound for until I move out or find storage that would "match" and fit what little space I have left in the room....

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Is it not fully emulation? It dumps the rom from the cart and runs that, which would be identical to running a rom that did not come from a cart. Or am I mistaken in the way this machine functions?
If you are just trying to save space for now, there are far cheaper was to go about it. To me this seems more like a luxury item, not a basic needs machine.
Heck, you could get a different clone console for much, much cheaper, and it would probably fit your needs just as well.

And which one would that be? I keep hearing of others but usually hear they aren't that great(at least in most forums for some odd reason that I've read) plus I planned on doing just about every system this thing would support

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I'm not that familiar with clone consoles, but I see them everywhere for fairly cheap. You might lose compatibility with a few games, but is that worth the cost to you?
This just doesn't seem like something I would think you'd like. You like original stuff. You've ranted and raved in irc about how much you dislike emulation.
Maybe to save space you could just only pull out one console at a time? No reason to have 7 consoles hooked up all at once.
I just figure, no harm in making you think twice, that's all

Yeah but it's a pain in the rump when I do decide to play those consoles to have to move things around and pull one out since it's hard to make my mind up which system and game to play(what with already owning/having snes jr, gc, nes, ps2, and wii). Even though the wii will probably move out of the room and be replaced by wii u or at least packed up(since it's a model 1(I think) of wii that has all the gc stuff....

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Maybe it will be easier to make up your mind with only one console hooked up at a time
Then you could even finish games and shit!
Alright, don't want to derail the thread too much or make others think there is some hot new info. If you do decide to purchase, I hope you enjoy it!
Just dump roms on your Wii dude, shits free! xP Save space, great output, runs everything you want, good controller selection.

Still waiting for updates on sound quality on these bad boys. If the sound is perfect/close to perfect (specifically NES, SNES, and GBA), I'm in. If the firmware gets hacked and allows translated/hard to find ROMs without a cart, I will replace the bar of soap in my shower with a Retron5 and use it to bathe daily.

Amazon pre-orders, watch your e-mail. There have been a few people that have been getting status updates that they will be receiving their consoles on June 6! But it appears that the earlier your pre-order, the better of a chance you'll see that.
As far as "emulation" on the Retron 5 is concerned, only the audio and video information is dumped to the console, you will still need the actual cartridge to play the game.
From what I'm seeing, this supposed firmware update will address many if not all of the early problems some reviewers are coming across (SNES issues mainly)
