There are a ton of great games on the GBA. You really should dive a bit deeper into it's library, you are missing out! I recommend starting with Advance Wars and Warioland 4, but only cause they were the first two GBA games I owned.o.pwuaioc wrote:Definitely. Every game I've played on there I didn't care for: Mario v. Donkey Kong, Sonic Advance, LoZ: Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion - didn't care for any of them (well, Sonic Advance was ok, but nowhere near as good as the first 4). I'm sure I'm missing out on some really good stuff, so I'll get to those eventually, but first impressions were not good.noiseredux wrote:...um. 1. Wonder Boy in Monster World (VC - Mega Drive)
2. Secret of Mana (VC - SNES)
3. Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
4. Metroid Prime 2 (GC)
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
6. Blazing Lasers (TG16)
7. Banjo Kazooie (N64)
8. Panzer Dragoon (Saturn)
9. Punch Out!! (NES)
10. Mischeif Makers (N64)
Blazing Lasers is finally beaten thanks to a helpful tip from Dsheinem which let me respawn instantly where I died instead of at a checkpoint. Ironically, the run I beat it one was by far the worst run I've had at this game, with far more deaths than usual (about 8 overall, 5 of which were in the last level), compared to my usual 0 -1 before level 8.
The final boss itself was actually incredibly easy, it seems weird that hes such a pushover after such a hard level. I only took 1 hit total from all 3 forms of the boss, which cost me a life, but I honestly feel I could've done it without dying given another go.
Overall I finished the game with 58 lives
About 30 of those were given from the points the final boss gave me, and 10 were gotten from holding out against boss 1 on the boss rush for 2 minutes. I enjoyed the game, even moreso now I know it has an item that gives you instant respawns. I'd highly recommend it.

- Super Mario Land (GB)
- Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (GB)
- Burning Rangers (SAT)
- Super Mario Kart Super Circuit (GBA)
- Tales of Symphonia (GCN)
- Metroid Prime 2 (GCN)
- Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (Wii)
- Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
- Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (GBA)
Took out Super Mario Land today. 3 down, 6 to go.
I did not like Super Mario Land. Maybe it's that Mario Land 2 is my favorite game starring the plumber - Mario Land and Mario Land 2 could not be any more different if Nintendo RD1 had tried. Mario Land felt like a sloppy answer to the original Super Mario Bros. The controls were wonky, the levels felt totally out of place in a Mario game, and what was the deal with the fireballs?
The only thing I did like was the music - some really good tunes in this game that I think have not shown back up in the franchise since. And that's a shame.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Not to mention that the game is really easy (To me anyway) SML2 is a huge improvement in difficulty and replay value if you ask me. I still like both, but manly because SML was my first GB game...Flake wrote: I did not like Super Mario Land. I vastly prefer SML1 over 2, but I'm sure it's because it was my first GB game and I've played it soooooooo much.

Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
Finally tore myself away from Mod Nation Racers and got back to a game on my summer list. Put a lot more time into Vay over the weekend. Things have been going much more smoothly than before. Bosses arnt destroying me left and right anymore. Also had a huge surprise when one of my characters was very suddenly killed. Another one left the team shortly afterwards too. It was frustrating and fun at the same time. I've got 4 of the 5 orbs and already found the Vay armor and I'm currently in Danek territory so I'm assuming I'm nearing the end unless there are anymore crazy twists coming up.
The pop culture references are pretty great too. Had a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Beavis and Butthead reference just this morning!

Got further into FFVIII. Am currently stuck on a fight with Seifer. He spams a move (after he has taken a bit of damage first) called Demon Slice and it kills anyone on my team in 1 hit. Got it saved directly before the fight so I can give it another go tomorrow night.
Vay is also getting super hard. The regular battles are killer now.

I really should be playing FFVII right now, but I cannot manage to pull myself away from Poker Night at the Inventory on Steam. I can't stop!

Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
Been playing a little more FFIX. Spoilers ahead.
I just rescued Hilda at Mt. Gulug and turned Cid back into a human. Kuja has run off somewhere after I rescued Eiko from him. I think I'ma good chunk through disc 3 now. I was right about Desert Palace being where i'd got to before, and i also definetily didn't beat it. I recognised most of the palace, but nothing since then.
Anyhow, I'm definitely sticking with Zidane, Eiko, Freya, Quina as my team. It seems to have been a good idea, they're a really nice combo. Zidane is a damage dealer and obligatory thief, freya is a secondary damage dealer (the best one at the minute, due to me stealing a lance which is intended for much later in the game it seems) but also has some very handy utility with moves like White Draw (heals some MP for party) and Reis' Wind (casts regen on the whole party). Eiko is the obligatory white mage, but her summons are really handy too, with Phoenix possibly reviving the entire party if we all die (which hasn't happened yet, but its nice to be prepared) and Carbuncle absolutely ruining some recent bosses. The only disadvantage is not having Vivi - if you cast one of his spells on your entire party, its reflected 4 times at the enemy for a crapload of damage. Quina's magic is also incredibly useful, with great support spells like mighty guard (protect + shell for the whole party), auto life and white wind (healing spell) combined with some solid attack spells at last, like 1000 needles, frog drop and twister.
Speaking of Quina, I only need one more spell to have learnt all of his blue magic. It wasn't too hard.
