If I can just drive it up to Carmax and still get an estimate I might do that soon.

About 4 years ago, I had a tree fall on my 99 VW Passat. The car had 110K miles and insurance gave me $3K to get the roof/sun roof fixed. It wasn't quite enough damage to total the car which I wanted to do since there were a bunch of major repairs needed. (AC didn't work, needed evaporator/compressor, transmission cooler was leaking, etc) So I took the money and called a local auto auction place. They picked up the car and sold it at auction 3 days later for $2500, roof damage and all.

So I was happy with the whole process. The car ended up being sold to some company based in the Georgia, (formerly part of USSR). I guess they buy cars and fix them up to be sold over there.

That reminds me, is your town littered with those "We buy junk cars" signs? Might be worth at least checking on those.

Definitely worth a phone call but I don't think those places will give you much money. The auto auction place will give you an estimate over the phone based on past sales. In my case, the estimate was around $2300 and it ended up selling for $2500. The fees were between $150 & $200 so I cleared $2300+.

The nice thing about the auction was that I didn't have to worry about having the buyer come back because of the lemon law.

Think I'm gonna quit my job at the end of the month... I've definitely been working here a lot longer than I ever planned to.

Don't quit until you have something else lined up. I made that mistake... once.

But it's really hard to motivate yourself to go out job hunting when you already have a job. If you can sustain yourself for a little while you'll probably be okay. . . but things are still pretty shitty in the job world.

That said, there ARE jobs out there, I know of a few places that can't find anyone. Everyone they find is a lazy ass #$@#$er or a dumbass. That stereotype about people just wanting to sit back and suck on the government's tits is not completely without merit.
