Is it considered piracy if I can get extra "game money" from a glitch in a freemium game?
Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
So my GOG collection now is 57 games. Enough to keep me a busy for a full year or more. It was very difficult to not buy those $3 games. I even got games I didn't know I wanted like Gabriel Knight 3, which was on my wish list for some reason. Here is what I got, what do you think:

I think the wars were exciting back then because of the technology. Each console had its pros and cons. Now consoles are so powerful they all can do the same thing. The uniqueness to the console died (I noticed this is happening to cars too).BoneSnapDeez wrote:The console wars of the past are dead now that adults with disposable income play video games. I miss the epic Nintendo vs. Sega wars. I remember one time in 6th grade I was proclaiming that the Genesis had "no RPGs." Next day a kid brought in a magazine with screenshots of all the Phantasy Star games. Blew my balls off.
Nintendo is the only manufacturer to try and differentiate itself with motion controls and the tablet, and while others disagree, I do not see this being leveraged.

Console wars are certainly not dead, grown adults still fight and curse at each other for liking certain consoles more than others.
Technology doesn't have much to do with why there are more multiplats (think Pre NES days, a lot of consoles had the same games). Has more to do with the way the user bases are distributed amongst the platforms. Back in the day, Nintendo had a lot of leverage, so they could tell 3rd parties not to give someone like Sega any games, so Sega would have to make their own games until their user base was big enough for 3rd parties to start coming over. If they had been on even playing field, then they could have had a lot of the same games come out on SNES and Genesis despite the hardware differences, same with Master System and NES.

War will never be the same.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I never realized that GBA cartridges use 3 types of save memory. I investigated this because sadly the Retron 5 won't write to carts with EEPROM memory, so anything you do on that can't be written back to the cartridge until a firmware update fixes this. However, it will write back to games with flash memory.
Since I picked up a tri-wing screwdriver yesterday, I opened 35 of my GBA carts to give them a good cleaning and to see what type of memory they have.
Of my 35 games -
7 have no save memory (either using passwords or they just simply don't save at all)
3 have SRAM (that is, battery-powered memory)
16 have EEPROM (used for smaller saves, from what I read)
9 have flash memory (for larger saves, from what I understand)
Pretty neat, and now I got 35 clean GBA cartridges

I've always been really surprised with how badly GTA games tend to portray Hispanics. They portray everybody else bad too, but they tend to take the piss out there.ZeroAX wrote: It's all the Mexican stereotypes pissing you off, eh?

The developers are Scottish. Odds are they don't have too much experience with American hispanics.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I've always been really surprised with how badly GTA games tend to portray Hispanics.
