Well I might be screwed on that. There was a boss door behind some lava, and I couldn't figure out how to turn off the lava. So I went forward into the next area, and fought a giant mutant skeleton boss. After beating it, the door going backward hard locked, and I don't think I can go back now. I think the upgrades thing just affects the ending you get, is that the concern here?

Nah, you can always go back. You'll be fine. (Also, that particular spot doesn't require turning it off, it's more original Zelda Second Quest shenanigans.)

But no, there's a little more than the ending. I almost hate to say much more. :)

Now is the Switch Shovel Knight the definitive version w/ all the add-ons and modes? I want to say yes, right?

You can buy simply shovel knight for $10 on the Switch or buy the complete version for $24.99 and yes it is the definitive version. The switch got specter of torment a month earlier than everyone else as all the other systems will have it in April.

^ Awesome, I'm holding off on a physical version for other systems until I get a Switch then.

Yeah I am positive that a physical release will come out once all the dlc is released so wait and see. I didn't mind and really wanted a phenomenal game to pad out my Switch library as I am chomping at the bit for content. Snake pass is next on the docket!

King's Quest IV update....fuck... this... game. I remember why it bothered me as a kid. Stupid fucking shovel.

I was wondering if you were past that part. That was the most infuriating part of the entire game.

so I've played like four hours of Civ5 now. I've decided that I'm not going to read any walkthroughs or guides or anything. So basically, I'm just muddling my way through. It's a weird feeling - I'm rather compelled to play this game, and yet four hours later I have pretty much no idea if I'm ultimately making progress or not. I just keep researching stuff and building stuff. It's like... I'm having fun but I'm not sure why. Shrug.

Yeah I think in strategygames I get more of a kick out of just building stuff up than anything else. I've played a good bit of Civ 5 approaching it mostly like you have. I'd look up something I legitimately didn't understand how it worked, but other than that I'd just play the game. I try to pick a civ whose attributes sound good and try to take a little advantage of those, but that's about it. There's no way I'd get into the math behind the game like some people do.

Been playing a lot of games on Steam from the Humble Freedom Bundle from awhile ago. A sampling:

Invisible Inc. - I really liked this one for a time. Turn-based grid strategy with a cyberpunk influence and inoffensive art style. Seems like you're encouraged to play through the (short) campaign, then crank up the difficulty and go through again. Not sure if I'll do that but a fun game that was a little different than the other six million SRPGs I'm currently playing.

Subnautice (Early Access) - I'm not a huge fan of the Early Access model in general, but that's what bundles are for I guess. People were pretty excited about this inclusion, and very dismayed when there were no more keys for it. I've put in probably 8-10 hours. I like it quite a bit, but only as far as my interest in the survival genre would take me. It's serene and exciting and sometimes scary exploring the depths of an uncharted ocean, and the prospect of building a cool underwater lair is neat too, just the damn survival aspects get in the way. It's kind of a pain to continuously have to mine two resources and fabricate them (twice) into a single bottle of water. Also it makes sense that some fish are predatory but any time I got attacked while I was building something fun it was just straight up annoying. This genre probably isn't in my wheelhouse, but I would wager that I like Subnautica better than I would a lot of others in the same category.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch - This is a good game to laugh and enjoy a minimal challenge with. The premise is absurd and just a goofy, fun time. This is a pretty good game to relax with, and the controls are actually kind of interesting and unique. There are track pad controls for laptops but I found them to be pretty bad, although sometimes that can make the game even sillier.

I think the way I'm approaching Civ5 is that I am not all that concerned with "winning" - I figure the experience of feeling my way around and seeing how far I get without really knowing what I'm doing is way more interesting than like... doing well. Haha.

this is exactly what has stopped me from playing this. It was on my radar when Rift support was announced but alas it's not the game I want it to be. I want to just swim around and explore. I do not want to mine or craft or survive.

Basically I want Abzu to have VR support, I guess.

Playing through DK64 a while back made me really wanna play through a better collectathon, so today I started playing through Banjo-Tooie again. I have never 100%'d it before, but this time I shall try for as such! I don't remember any roadblocks nearly as bad as the ones in DK64, so I think it's just a matter of actually trying all the ones I was too daunted to attempt when I was younger. Already did one like that earlier today, when I actually attempted and beat the one in Jolly Roger Bay for protecting that pig from the fish underwater. Babby me was much scared of that kind of thing :P

I am beginning to suspect I may have glitched one particular jiggy out of existence by doing something I shouldn't've, but hopefully that isn't the case. Either way, I've been to where it SHOULD be, so I'm gonna count it :P
