I hear dreadful things about FF Unlimited, lol. Good luck.BoneSnapDeez wrote:As I mentioned in another thread, I'm gonna watch all my unwatched anime (my "backlog") before starting any new video games. On deck I have Magic Knight Rayearth II, Fullmetal Alchemist season 1, Ranma ½ season 1, and a small assortment of Final Fantasy: Unlimited and Last Exile episodes. Should be a good time.

I liked FF unlimited. You cant watch it expecting it to be connected to any of the videogames. Watch it as its own entity. Theres nothing groundbreaking about it.
Its not the best anime. I wouldn't have paid full price for them. But now they are very cheap to obtain. I got Vol. 1,2,3 for a buck a piece at the fleamarket and I got The rest online for about $2-3 each.
Its got one of those vague endings with no real end to it.
But thats a problem with lots of anime now.

FF Unlimited isn't that bad. It's kinda Digimon-esque in the way its episodes are set up, and it's plenty watchable. Not great or anything, but there's far worse out there.
Only thing it has in it that has ANYTHING to do with Final Fantasy at all are Chocobos.

I've got that one on my list as well, I quite like super robot shows too. Currently watching Muteki Koujin Daitarn 3, pretty humorous. There are bits of dark humor here and there, the show provides a lot of laughs. It kind of feels like the director is just taking the super robot show formula and having random fun with it.Nemoide wrote:I've been watching Beast King Golion - I like super robot shows and with Media Blasters on the edge of non-existence, I picked it up when I saw the whole thing for $30.
Other random stuff I'm watching...
Giving Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam a long overdue watch. As expected, it's great. I wouldn't say it's surpassing my expectations but it's as good as I had hoped. Most of the story is already spoiled for me unfortunately though, but I'm still enjoying it.
Also been following Saint Seiya Omega and Zetman, two shows currently airing. Saint Seiya Omega seems like it's got the potential to be really good, but it's clearly aimed at today's youth, so I don't think it's going to be surpassing the original or anything. Budget seems through the roof though, great animation for a TV series. The Zetman anime is... okay. Sadly it's not faithful to the manga, and I guess it's only scheduled to be 13 episodes. It's got good action and it's still grim like the manga, but I was hoping for a good long series that would represent the manga better.

Is it the actual original Golion? I grew up with Voltron, but I've been pretty interested in seeing the real deal someday.Nemoide wrote:I've been watching Beast King Golion - I like super robot shows and with Media Blasters on the edge of non-existence, I picked it up when I saw the whole thing for $30.
I'm digging it. It's definitely ridiculous, wildly inconsistent in tone, barely makes sense, and clearly aimed at children. But I like that kind of thing sometimes. I'm glad to be watching it!

I've been following Detective Conan for a while. I'm a huge mystery fan but the show is becoming unbearable. They can only mock the European mystery formula so many times! It started out a lot of fun, too. The cases have been getting more and more derivative and my standards keep getting higher thanks to the American stuff (Thanks, Ray Chandler).
Oh well. Anyone know of any hard-boiled detective anime? I know that's a tall order, but it would be pretty awesome

Can't think of any anime... but you might like the 20th Century Boys, MPD Psycho, and Oldboy mangas. MPD Psycho isn't for the faint of heart though.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Oh well. Anyone know of any hard-boiled detective anime? I know that's a tall order, but it would be pretty awesome

I just started watching Suzuka on Hulu; I dig it so far. I seem to have a thing for the High School Romantic Comedy Anime. I'm not surprised really

Monster and Master Keaton might kind of fit the bill.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:I've been following Detective Conan for a while. I'm a huge mystery fan but the show is becoming unbearable. Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendat
Started watching season 2 of Magic Knight Rayearth. I've seen 4 episodes (out of 29) and oh my lawd is it boring. Too much dialogue and so many flashback/recap scenes to summarize the first season. It started to pick up a bit at the end of episode 4 so hopefully that's a good sign of things to come.
I have a pretty strong attachment to the series. Season one was probably the first anime I ever watched and the Super Famicom RPG was the first import game I ever played.
