As promised in the Acquired thread, I have played the weird Saturn games I borrowed from my friend yesterday. I talked about Pretty Fighter X and Ultraman here in the Beaten thread, and now I'll talk about the last one whose nature I also guessed exactly correct, Deep Fear.

It's just a Resident Evil-style survival horror game. Though I'd compare it a bit more to something like Overblood, where it's clearly trying to capitalize on the popularity of things like RE, and doesn't start out with so immediately dark an atmosphere. It has tank controls, and I assume it has combat, but I hate this style of game, so I didn't play it long enough to find out Xp

I was right about it having all English voice acting though! It's some of the most atrocious voice acting I've ever heard, but it's there! All the non-voiced text is in Japanese, like for item descriptions and diary entries and such, but even the bigger menu items are all in English. Very odd that so many games like this exist, I must say.

When I played DK64 I really enjoyed it since it was during the time of my life when new games wasn't flooding in and I really enjoyed games that would last for a long while. Looking back at it today though I would probably have quite a hard time with all the Kong switching.

Currently I'm playing Blaster Master Zero on the Switch. Most of the time it's a really fun game and I have never played an entry in the series before this one. I enjoy the combat and exploration for most parts with some minor complaints on the way some dungeons are designed (with being completely empty on some kind of reward sometimes) and that once your gun gets fully powered in the first 10 minutes of the game it completely wrecks all other options in 99% of all cases when going on foot. Otherwise, a fun game well worth the low price tag so far!

Ah don't get me wrong Partridge, of those three Rare games Tooie is probably my favorite if memory serves me right. I think I just got burned out when both Banzo games were remastered for the XBLA. So I think I jumped into Tooie immediately after beating Kazooie. In comparison, I liked how Tooie had more open environments and bigger levels. There is something weird about both Kazooie and parts of DK64 with those caves/industrial levels that are claustrophobic that can be fairly nauseating... though I never got that vibe with the N64 Zelda's or Mario.

I'm not sure I'll hit up the Banjo's again, but yeah had a good time with them when they re-released on the XBLA.

Speaking of platformers, the Crash HD Trilogy is looking fantastic. I never played 2-3 back in the day or even beat 1. So I'm excited to check this collection out.

That's a very good point about the design philosophies of Banjo 1 and DK64. DK64 really does have that "amusement park" feel to it, in some places. Where it sort of FEELS like the designers thought, "well in this corner we'll have some coins for Diddy, a switch for one of Tiny's switchs, and a bonus barrel for Chunky." The worlds feel so much less natural than something like Tooie, which has such a fantastic (and sometimes frustrating) interconnected and alive feel to the world. It makes me appreciate Tooie so much more, playing DK64 like this XP

I have decided I literally can't do this 100%, so I'm just gonna get as high as I can. There are some bananas (even golden ones) that I literally just can't find, let alone earn, in the 4th world, so I'm just moving onto the 5th world and calling it a day Xp

I started Syberia for the Microsoft XBOX this afternoon!

I am not one for Adventure games, mostly because I do not like PC games all that much. However, this one struck me as rather unique. Adventure games always seem to be obtuse with a weird sense of humor and they just never clicked with me.

But, I saw a review of this game and it seemed fantastic. I like the story and the setting immensely. I love history and discovering old stuff, so I am interested to hear a story about wind up machine toys and how they fit in modern society.

So far, the controls feel a little stiff, but that it is to be expected. I was surprised that the dual analog sticks weren't used, but once I played the game some more, I quickly began to realize what is going on. There is no tutorial, so it is trial by fire.

Hopefully, the game will be enjoyable as I already love the story. I am just hoping there are no bad Adventure game tropes that I have to deal with like bad combat, bizarre puzzles and unwinable situations.

But, we shall see. For now, so far so good.

Done with Steep I think it's a beautiful world and all but I can only take so much time trials and high score challenges before I go crazy . It's a real shame that there are no real time races or direct competition with players. The closest you get to head on head gameplay is racing ghosts setup by the community and that's just a snooze fest after a while.

Started up CoD Infinite Warfare and people were right this is a very solid game and probably one of the best single player campaigns the series has seen in at least the last decade. It was well worth the $20 I picked it up for through amazon.

I loved Advanced Warfare. Still have Infinite sealed from Christmas. Need to check it out.

Been playing Amnesia - The Dark Descent the past two nights. Two hours in and mixed feelings. This is mostly a game about collecting tinder boxes and lamp oil so far.

Have you run into any monsters yet? They don't actually appear for a little while, iirc. The game up to that point is sort of just trying to fake you out that something is gonna come, or that something else is happenin'.
