Because right now if I want to listen to the game music I don't have a way to plug headphones into the ps3(unlike with ps4)...it wasn't the best plan from the start but still only plan I could think of and well that's the problem I haven't gotten around to finding and deciding on a device such as that. I have that hp pavilion 23bw monitor which is nice but small, but doesn't have a audio out(which is probably why I need to decide on a decent switch next month). Not to mention if I can get it to work, I want to dispose of my current desk and find one I can possibly use as a storage medium for my consoles just to eliminate the stacking i'm doing(seriously that hurts my eyes and brain to see them stacked like they currently are...)

Agree a newer LED TV would be a better choice. However, a HDCRT displays the newer consoles nice as well crystal clear no upscale issues on the older consoles. Not to mention the SVideo input that is rare on newer TVs.

@ darsparx - If you also are running older consoles on that TV, the 4:3 might be a better option. A compromise of which console you want to utilize the stretch or borders showing.

Yeah sounds more and more like I might want to find a switch/reciever of some sort and find a way to let it direct audio to headphones. With living where I do now the only options i have are to some how utilize the crt, older princeton monitor i have(don't know why that thing is still in my room(vga and dvi(?)), or the hp monitor(which is a 24" monitor with hdmi, vga and dvi(I think that's the right name?) but no audio out which means a switch or device with audio for headphones would be nice since that could turn into speakers if I do it right).

Gotta remember I'm limited in what I can do even though I'm 19 going on 20(still live w/mom so "her house her rules" *sigh*). So i have to make use of what I have and possibly upgrade the furniture i do have in my room to better suit gaming...as well as do little upgrades or completely change the tech to make it work for this...

Each game has a unique pacing and rhythm that feels unique and really gels well with a particular person. For me, the pacing of Samsho is perfect for me. I enjoy the slower, more methodical gameplay. It, much like the Virtua Fighter series, has a very, "Action/Reaction," style that really appeals to me. When a fighting game clicks, it really is a beautiful thing! Keep up the good fight!

Interesting. I can see that, the reaction punches timed.

Practically speaking, you can set the PS3's audio output to be the multi-out cable or optical jack, even if the video is HDMI. It could get messy in terms of cabling, but, you could run audio through a computer, through amplified speakers, through your CRT, etc. A receiver is, by design, the center of an AV setup, and would simplify that, along with technically letting you get the best out of your hardware.
I'm not sure if matters for any games, but, using the lossless codecs on Blu-ray requires using HDMI audio (and not via audio-out/headphone jack on a TV, as that's downmixed per spec).

Well that might work for now to redirect audio to the crt...guess I'll have to find a receiver next chance i get next month and continue doing ps4 through headphones for now(seems to working for that at least *sigh*)

My random game thought:

Does anyone ever just constantly replay older games because you like them so much? That is a pretty broad question, I know. But let me clarify.

I currently have a back catalog of about 50 sealed PS3 games. All games that I really want to play. However, a couple of days ago, I found myself wanting to play a game and choosing one that I've already played a few times and beaten. And now I'm addicted to playing it again. So the stack of new games continues to sit there.

I've done this over the years with many of my personal favorites. It's funny because, I know that there are tons of gems that I own, but haven't played. Yet I'll find myself popping in Super Metroid or Mega Man X almost every time I sit down at the SNES controls.

I also do this weird thing where I'll play a multi-platform game on my PC first (since decidedly, it should be the best experience) and then I'll rebuy and replay on the PS3 or something, just to get the trophies on my account. Does anyone else do this?

Another thing I've noticed, especially with the current PS4 VS Xbone graphics debate going on, I can immediately tell that the graphics and resolution are much better and higher on the high-end PC. But then if I go and play the same game on the 360 or the PS3 later on, I almost don't even notice a difference. The games are just as fun. The Batman Arkham games come to mind. They look amazing with all the bells and whistles turned on with a GTX 780ti, but you almost don't feel like you're missing anything when played on a console. You pretty much would need each version side by side to notice anything different. I consider myself a videophile, but when I'm having fun in a game, I really just don't notice.

Yes. That's the reason this website exists.
