No Turbo CD though, hehe.

So if it only plays carts it can ID, that means it probably isn't going to play Famicom multi carts since adding all of those to the DB will never happen. Also new homebrews (such as sorta counts Pier Solar mentioned in the Gamespot video) won't work either unless they update for them.

It plays carts it can't ID you just won't be able to save your game data, at least in the current revision.

The problem with Pier Solar probably has to do with the fact that that the game doesn't work with a lot of emulators to begin with.

I think I also remember hearing something about Watermelon intentionally making it difficult to dump. Whatever method the Retron 5 dumps the ROM to local memory with might not cut it.

Ah ok. Total misunderstanding or glazing over while listening on my part.

Correct, there will be no save states or cheats available in the games that it won't recognize. They're still playable.

But I know they will get firmware updates for these various games. As I said earlier, they are working on the Street Fighter Alpha 2 issues that GameSpot encountered in their review.

And battery saves will still work I'm assuming?

Doesn't sound like that big of a deal.

Would battery saves work? That's a good question since we're dealing with emulation and not actual hardware here.

Right, because it's running the rom from memory if I recall correctly. So if it doesn't recognize the game, will it bother to try and pull the saves as well?

HK Mktg: Good news everyone. Most everyone in the office was called out into the warehouse to assist. We were swamped because Amazon just got moving. We packed a ton of grey RetroN 5s. I don't know how it was resolved. I just got back to my desk, and now it's time to go home. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

It looks like Amazon finally realized they needed to fill their preorders, and if you go to their site, they officially changed the Retron 5's release date to June 6.

Now let's hope all the other online retailers follow suit

But just in case you don't want to wait, you can get one now for twice the price + shipping! Let the gouging begin!

Awesome, I pre-ordered mine on Amazon back in September of last year. With all the doubt of confirmation of shipping with Amazon I wasn't sure if I should wait to see what happens or grab one from a local shop that's getting it this Thursday. Still debating it though, especially if they can't fill all the pre-orders at Amazon.
