Amon Tobin has a new EP coming out called Dark Jovian. I'm super excited for it. He's been really interested in space exploration recently, and this is his musical vision of that. The record will be released in a white rubber wheel and debut for sale on record store day (4/18).

That AT is so pretty, but I'd never want to play it...

A little Enduser Shares Needles With The Teknoist while I work on some database pictures for another forum. (Drum & Bass and lovely chunkiness)

The first link doesn't seem to do anything when I click on items and the kickass page locked up my browser after I told it to FOAD on about 30 cookies and they were still coming. *sigh*

I'm not sure that Brain Waltzera has anything to do with this, but it was mentioned in some related posts.

However, if you keep adding digits to the User#............. names, then you find more Aphex! It's crazy! It's like he just decided to dump all of his years of back catalog out into the internets! There are old things from the Selected Ambient Works Vol 1 & 2 that were never released, AFX things, possibly some Analord. I'm so excited to get this much Aphex!

A lot of this Aphex Twin "soundclog" came out a month or two ago, but it's all new to me. IT FEELS LIKE CHRISTMAS! :D

Here's another harder to find one:

I wonder how many user names he has?

You can find most all of the released tracks here, plus 4 not available elsewhere:

I'm slowly working my way through listening to the Aphex Twin User48736353001 material.

A lot of the tracks have snippets of parts from his other material and are probably alternate takes or reworkings. It's so great to hear these. You can pretty clearly tell that some were alternate outtakes from albums like Selected Ambient Works 1 & 2, Polygon Window, etc. I haven't found much yet that sounds like any of his post Richard D James album material, though I've still got many tracks left to sift through.

The ones I am most excited about right now sound like they are outtakes from his little known side project with Mike Dred as Universal Indicator. I adore that album and it's one of my favorite Aphex side projects. It is some of the most manic and pummeling acid house ever recorded. Hear it here. The newly released tracks that sound like outtakes from Universal Indicator are 23 moodular 3, 14 Moodular Acid [pissflaps mix], 9 leeds orbit, and 5 acid misc.

As for the Brainwaltzera stuff, I still haven't figured out who he is. A lot of people are speculating that he is Mike Paradinas (aka mu-ziq), while one website has suggested that he is Mr. Brainwash from Exit Through the Gift Shop fame. It's possible that Richard and his friends are flooding Soundcloud with their unreleased goodies.

Relatedly, one of the Aphex User# accounts follows Somadril. On "1 nocares," somadril posted "Skin up, cunt!" and User# responded "@somadril: just did..i mean u just did and im smoking it now and your asleeeeep" Some think that Somadril might be Luke Vibert, but it's not clear. I'm not as good at identifying Vibert or Mu-Ziq's signature sounds as I am with Aphex Twin or Squarepusher, so it's hard for me to tell personally. No matter who these people are though, they definitely have some quality tunes to listen to.

Ack wrote:I've been listening to a lot of Cluster Buster, Lazerhawk, Perturbator, Compilerbau, Miami Nights 1984, Kavinsky, and Droid Bishop lately, especially Cluster Buster's They Call Her One-Eye album, which is amazing.

My question is: what are other folks and bands that have this 1980s futuristic-synth sound? Because A) it's awesome, and B) it helps me come up with ideas to write, particularly cheap schlock cyberpunk stuff. And we all need more of that in our lives.

Old quote, I know, but probably most affiliated with what I'm currently listening to. I don't like listening to much music with vocals at work because I'm busy at my desk or constantly drifting to and from my office, and just need something more musically led to get the most enjoyment.

There was a lot of music that I like from FIFA ('08, '10 and '11), and what I'd hear over the radio at my old job (Spec's, a liquor chain in the state), and so, I revisited that, and found it perfect for my current job.

Started with Simian Mobile Disco and Justice, then moved on to Ladytron, Simian, Royksopp, Massive Attack, Perturbator (Hotline Miami), Kavinsky (Drive), Lazerhawk (from Austin!), and now music from Lumines Electronic Symphony.

I find Perurbator, Kavinsky, Lazerhawk and their ilk to be a fad, and possibly by the hipsters, for the hipsters, but it's still very enjoyable. All of this music makes me want to go make something, which is something I've rarely felt before.
