I just figured out how to get HDLoader running and I'm installing a game to the HDD now.

Out of curosity, will any of these patched images work on a PS3?

I have a couple of imports I'd like to get upscaled on my 20GB PS3, but can't since the PS3 is region locked for PS1/PS2 games.

I very much doubt it.

v1.7 is out. The exploit is pretty much complete in my eyes. They fixed the last of my gripes. In my tests, it now properly detects and runs dvd movies and ESR patched games. Doesn't mistake either for the other. They fixed the skip disc option. The menu scrolls now which makes it damn near limitless and choices. The installer is even more intelligent now. It matches the USB folder path for the BOOT.ELF file, so thats nice for people like me with Swap Magic discs.

All in all, the exploit is now so idiot-proof that pretty much anyone can work with it once properly setup.

That's good news, coincidentally last night installed it and only worked after I replaced the old config. It just keeps getting better and better, previous to this my lens did not boot most disc, originals and backups, unless you insisted many many times. So my only way of playing was with hdloader. Now it auto loads them without trouble, so casual games are back in action. Also booted a dvd movie just fine and I placed my nickname at the top of the osd menu. Beautiful! Now my only wish is that all my backups were patched... damn!

Can I just overwrite the files to update the exploit or will I have to re-exploit?

Just run the new installer. It will ask if you want to overwrite your old config file. I suggest you do, but its not required.

uLaunchElf: the operating system/file manager of sorts for PS2.
ESR: Plays patched backup games directly with no need for swapping.
HD Loader: Plays games off the installed hard drive
Simple Media System: Plays mp3, divx, and other media locally or via LAN.
