Together Retro - June
Re: Together Retro - June
Maybe you should try playing co-op with someone. That can really open up some of these titles.

And Maru's right about co-op'ing beat 'em ups. That can make a big difference.

Re: Together Retro - June
I will plan on playing through Renegade and, perhaps, the rest of the Kunio-kun beat ‘em ups I don’t already have under my belt.
Re: Together Retro - June
Beat-'em-ups it is. I recommend grabbing MAME and just credit-feeding if something is too tough. I highly recommend TMNT to start.
Also, a lot of Capcom's CPS games are great, like King of Dragons, Captain Commando, Punisher, Alien Vs. Predator...

SNES and PS1 are my favourite consoles that I can emulate, but as long as I can emulate it and it doesn't require a 6 button controller (or some other kind of non-standard controller), then I don't have much of a platform preference. Stuff on Steam is fair game too since I can return games if I need to.Exhuminator wrote:What platforms do you prefer?laurenhiya21 wrote:So coming up with something to play might be a challenge, but I'll see what I can find...

Ah and I'm pretty sure I've already tried out Final Fight 2 (or one of the SNES ones), Golden Axe, and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. I know I've played others but I remember those ones since I've actually owned them instead of just randomly emulating something.

Just spit balling here, but have you played River City Ransom (Kunio Kun something something) on the NES? The GBA also received a really nice port (possibly other systems as well?). It's legit amazing. It has some difficult segments, but it also allows for some RPG-style stat building. Although this can take a bit longer (and may well cross a 'repetitiveness threshold'), it allows for some degree of 'grinding' at which point you can simply power right through much of the game. If you take this approach you might want to look into a guide to see which items grant the biggest bang-for-your-buck in terms of building stats (it's not always made super obvious) as well as which fighting moves are ultimately the most effective. Just a suggestion, but like you I'm not super awesome at beat 'em ups and RCR never struck me as being overwhelming.laurenhiya21 wrote:Hm, can't say I'm too excited about beat em ups. I can't remember all the ones I've tried, but I don't think I've been able to beat a single one. I either get bored of the repetition, or there's a point with super insanely difficult enemies/boss that I can't get pass so I give up.
So coming up with something to play might be a challenge, but I'll see what I can find...

Chronicles of Mystara rules, and I believe you can credit-feed.laurenhiya21 wrote: Ah and I'm pretty sure I've already tried out Final Fight 2 (or one of the SNES ones), Golden Axe, and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. If you want something cute and colorful on SNES, check out Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (1993 JP) AKA Sailor Moon (1994 EU), and Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R (1993 JP). The very best beat 'em on SNES IMO is Ninja Warriors (1994 US).laurenhiya21 wrote:SNES and PS1 are my favourite consoles that I can emulate
Sarge is totally right about MAME and beat 'em ups. There's loads of high quality beat 'em ups in the arcade library. And since you can credit feed to victory, it doesn't matter if you're not good at the genre. A little help with MAME: https://fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/mame

Re: Together Retro - June
Anyone looking at official emulation, Gate of Doom, Double Dragon, and Bad Dudes are on the Switch eShop (I just grabbed the latter two). Plus numerous Neo Geo games. This is a pretty accessible genre.
Anyone grab the original Ninja Gaiden from the Wii VC before it shut down?
