Just some general things I hope for.

1) Waste less money on games. Over the last couple years as I got more and more into PC gaming I've impulse bought more games than I can count. And more games than I can play. I've recently tried hard to cut back on it, and to only buy games that I truly think are worth the time to play. No more basing purchases off of "well this looks interesting" or "but it's on sale for less than $5" for me.

2) Play (and complete) more old/classic/retro games. I'm ashamed to admit, but I don't actually beat that many older video games. I collect a lot of them. I play a lot of them for minutes, or hours, at a time and then set them down. But I seldom actually play them to completion, and that bothers me. Usually something about the interface, controls, or sometimes threadbare stories of older games puts me off actually investing the time to see their credits roll, even if they're fun to pick up. I'd like to try and change that.

3) Beat more games than I buy. Kind of a combination of the first two, but in a more generalized sense and hopefully easier to accomplish. Regardless of how many games I buy this year, and regardless of how many older games I beat, I hope I can at least beat more games than I buy. That way my backlog will ultimately have lowered itself by the end of the year. Even if not by much.

4) I'd like to learn to be better at focusing on one thing at a time. I feel like I've gotten so caught up with the time constraints daily life puts on me, and the rush to do so many things, that multitasking has invaded every sector of my life. In particular it damages my enjoyment of video games, as well as other things I do for fun. I find it so hard to just sit their and do one thing, to give it my full attention. I almost always have a youtube video or a podcast playing in the background, I'm always on Skype talking to friends or my girlfriend, etc. When I can't pay attention to just the game/show/book i'm playing/watching/reading, it makes it hard to fully enjoy that experience.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

It appears it's resolution time. Looking back on 2016 I would count this as a successful year. I acquired some more Everdrives (GBA and Lynx), and a modded CoinOps oXbox, sold off a bunch of stuff I no longer needed to help fund a trip to Disney World, acquired a Saturn and a Dreamcast, and got closer to finishing off my Wii and Wii U collections. I also managed to get my Wii, Gamecube, and movie collections into DVD binders which has contributed to recapturing my living room and my sanity. With that said I have some goals for 2017.

1. Acquire a good retro based tv for my bedroom. Mine was having some issues when I moved out in August so I dumped it. I would like to be able to hook up my retro collection again, or at least be able to, so this is a must.

2. A big want is to acquire an R4i Gold and/or DSTwo for my DS. If anyone can help direct me to where I can find one or both of these I'd be extremely grateful.

3. Finish my Fire Emblem collection - I am missing the two Famicom games, which I want translated in NES shells, and the Japanese DS game. I am also missing the Amiibo's for Marth, Lucina, and Robin.

4. In addition to the Fire Emblem Amiibo set I want to finish my daughter's Animal Crossing collection. She needs Isabelle Summer Outfit and the Villager. I want a couple of specific ones for myself as well.

5. Acquire at least 8 games still on my Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U want lists, acquire 1-2 of the big ticket items for each, and discover 1-2 Japanese titles for the Gamecube. I'm down to about 20 games wanted for each system so a reasonable goal and keeps me at about 2 games a month. Until the Switch comes out anyway.

6. Work towards finishing my collection of the US SNES games that don't play on my SD2SNES. I'm down to 4 plus Starfox 2 and Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius.

7. Acquire the last Everdrive enabled console I'm still missing and the ED for it; the PC-Engine/TG-16. I want to get one that can hook up to a tv via analog and I won't spend the money on the cd games so I'm looking at a Shuttle or a Core Grafx.

8. Get all of my Wii U games off the shelf and into a CD/DVD binder. They are so much more accessible and take up a lot less room.

9. Continue playing games with my kids. This is one of my favorite things and we don't do it enough.

10. Get rid of some more stuff that I won't play, have doubles of, or don't have a system for.

11. Continue running Secret Santa in July for Racketboy. It's one of my favorite things we do and I enjoy helping it happen.

12. Not game related but I want to go through all of my comics, single issues, trades, and HC's and purge about half of them. Then use that money to finish off my X-Men and Disney collections and put the rest towards a trip this summer.

I think that is sufficient for 2017.

Guess I'm still not going to get too fancy here and just go with the idea I threw around earlier in the thread... simply really put some effort into chipping away at both my PS1 and PS2 backlogs, since those are the biggest ones physical games wise. Since I often play two games at once or so I think I'll try to have at least something new from those libraries in the rotation.

Nothing else too crazy for me, since I still have a little backlog all around and there were tons of 2016 games I still want to get to. 2016 rocked and was very productive, I believe 2017 will be very similar.

Main goals are to continue to restore and buy new arcades.

1. Complete / populate my MK2 arcade cab.
2. Find, purchase, restore as needed a Bally Embryon pin.
3. Find, purchase, restore as needed a Bally Medusa pin.

4. Non video game gaming - acquire two or three more pieces of the Magic Power 9.

Wish me luck! Three kids, a full time job, active athletics and other hobbies I sink money into heavily like Magic make the above sound daunting.

Best Buy had a lot of the Animal Crossing ones on sale for between $4-5 a couple weeks ago. If you keep an eye out, they may drop back down again if you can't find one used.

My gaming resolution for 2017 is simple. Enjoy games more. Find the good and understand others perspective in genres and titles that I personal have little interest in or did not find enjoyable.

I want to encourage others to play games and socialize about videogames. I want to spark and inspire others to enjoy games in new and exciting ways. I just overall want to be a positive and exciting force for games of the past and of the future.

I find new years resolutions pointless. :) But that said, in the spirit of the thread and my intent as it is and has been clear nothing changes.

- Sell off more unused gaming or other dust collecting stuff (old toys, antiques, etc) I've lost interest in.
- Play more of what I have instead of just reading up on it

I got an early jump on it being off the last 2 weeks of the year as I resolved to put down my interest in Game Gear and put the entire set of everything I've got on here and cross posted on ebay. 2 systems modded, dozens of games, all going to the resale reaper. :P

Next will to decide the fate of the Genesis once GG is cleared away, probably keeping but I may just let it pass into the wind too.

After that would be how I approach the PS4 going forward as I can't recall the last game I played on it...sell the few I have, then keep the system for movies/streaming like I did with PS3. Perhaps buy a PS4 remote and swap the 3 and 4 between rooms and get a few PS3 games I still enjoy back in my hands. No saying for sure, but a few days ago I was at a retail store with a friend and I saw this wall of PS4 stuff and even with holiday sales stuff being $20 off here $30 off there I couldn't justify buying what I'd have been chomping for a year ago Tomb Raider sequel, Last Guardian, etc.)

I'm not really doing much of a resolution for next year, but instead I'm mostly just going to do a list of games that I want to beat (or play and decide that I don't like it enough to beat).

1) I've put together two lists of ten games, one for games that I've been wanting to play for a while and/or just really want to play, and the other for older games (cause I tend to ignore those :|) and/or games that I've heard a lot of recommendations for. I might change what's on here depending on what people think or I'm not enjoying something on here, but this is what I've currently got:
Games I Just Really Want to Play
1. Ar Tonelico 2
2. 999
3. Yakuza Kiwami
4. Atelier Meruru
5. Rhapsody
6. Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure
7. Dungeons of Dreadmor
8. Harvest Moon: Magical Melody
9. Recettear
10. Ys Origin

Highly Recommended and/or Older Games
1. King’s Field: Ancient City
2. Xenogears
3. Suikoden 2
4. Shadow Hearts
5. Persona 3
6. Final Fantasy 4
7. Chrono Trigger
8. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
9. Wonder Project J (honestly not sure if I should keep this one on the list :|)
10. YU-NO
Some of these I don't have yet (like King's Field: Ancient City, which I plan on getting by the end of January) or aren't released yet, but I think I can safely assume that I can try (if not beat) all of these next year.

2) Also I think I want to get the final few NA Wii U games that I want. There's hardly any so I think it's easily doable.

What I still need:
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Hyrule Warriors
- Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (might just get for Switch but unsure)
- Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
- Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
- Paper Mario: Color Splash
- Tank! Tank! Tank!

Best resolution I've seen so far.
