I've never owned a top loader NES or AV Famicom before. I've only seen the top loader NES once in real life, and it was many years ago in a FuncoLand. It's actually smaller than I remember it being. I'm glad to add it to my hardware collection.
I was never a fan of the PlayChoice PPU color palette on the NES. When this was the only way to RGB mod a NES, my thoughts were always, "Sure, you get RGB, but the colors are wrong." But more recently I've found it to be kind of interesting. Some games look neat. For example, I think Super Mario Bros 3 looks really cool with this color palette.
By the way, I don't know if you ever took a look inside, but it was the first thing I did with it LOL. The mod work was very neatly done.

Re: The "Look What I Did / Made" Thread
I didn't have a problem with the palette myself. It never caused any problems for me at least, and when switching between consoles, I only noticed that it was more vibrant, that and the picture quality was incredible compared the the S-Video modded toploader I was using before that.
I actually never looked inside it, but I knew it was in good hands when I sent it to ApolloBoy - his reputation is golden. I couldn't believe how low his fee was, or that he refused to accept more for his work.

Nowhere near as technical as a lot of the stuff on here but I took a ten foot LED string light thing and put it into a limited edition Johnnie Walker bottle. I wanted to make a full-blown lamp out of it, but drilling a hole in a $250 empty bottle didn’t feel right.

That's cool, man. I like it!
I tend to save certain liquor bottles when they're empty, if I like the way the bottle looks. But I end up throwing them away eventually, when I get around to thinking "Why am I saving an empty bottle?" I should do something like this! That would give it more purpose, and a better reason to keep it.
I didn't mean for this thread to be tech-only stuff. I wanted people to share anything neat that they did, like this. So, thanks for sharing!

I had no idea there was such a thing as a $250 empty whisky bottle. I feel like the bottle is priced way more than the contents at that point.
Re: The "Look What I Did / Made" Thread
I only saved this bottle because of the history behind the release. This is the Johnnie Walker Black Label Director’s Cut. It was released in 2017 as part of the Blade Runner 2049 marketing campaign. 39000 were released. This one is #32555.
JW was present in the original 1982 film and they updated the bottle for this release. It does show up in the new film too.
As for the liquid inside: it is a more rich and vibrant version of Black Label. They used better quality whiskies in this blend. It doesn’t have an age statement like the regular 12 year Black, but it’s bottled at a punchy 49% over the standard 40%.
Fans are hanging onto unopened bottles for the actual year of 2049 where I assume they’ll open it up.

The cost of the bottle is something else. So on eBay, we have completed listings for the bottle and box that range from $150 to $250. On the website whisky.auction, the last auction sold for £525, or roughly $687USD. The price varies. You do a google search and the shopping tab has stores with a $2,000 listing, $899 as well.

Yeah I figured it wasn’t for only tech released stuff. It just the stuff on here is super impressive. The next thing I want to do is turn empty bottles into rocks glasses. I also want to paint bottles on canvas. I got the idea from this painting I got from a local HomeGoods. It’s based on a bottle of Hibiki 21Yr.Ziggy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 8:06 am That's cool, man. Definitely post pics if you do those things. I have a fascination with good looking bottles!
I don't know if you saw, some pages back in this thread (a few years ago) I posted pics of some glass beer bottles that I melted in a fire.

If it’s on the first page, it looks like those image links are dead.
The first thing I’ll be trying will be the Johnnie Walker stuff. Their bottles are angular: literally a rectangular slab looking head on. Small curvature at the top and the bottle is recognizable in general. I have two bottles of Blue Label with NYC designs. The first one was from 2018. The second is from 2019/2023.

The thing is copy right or trademark information. Obviously if I don’t sell it I’m good. But if I do decide to sell it on Etsy or something like that, I need to maybe tweak the branding sort of like the HomeGoods example I have.

Cool bottle. I saw a liquor bottle shaped like a skull one time. I wanted it just for the bottle but it was pricey.
Re: The "Look What I Did / Made" Thread
I’ve seen that one too. I think it was vodka that’s tied to Dan Aykroyd. I try to once when I was much younger, and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever ever had, spirit or otherwise.
Not sure if there was ever a crystal skull bottle with whiskey in it though. I’ve never seen it at least.
