I only read Watchmen once and it is very good. I also saw the movie which actually did work well (not necessarily expected, I would say).
On that note, the same applies for Scott Pilgrim (although I think Watchmen movie tried to be more faithful to the books) - also very good books, and rather good movie.
Comic Books & Graphic Novels - What are you reading?
Re: Comic Books & Graphic Novels - What are you reading?
I loved Watchmen, really everything Alan Moore does is worthwhile IMO. He's one of the few comic writers I would put up there with the top non-comic authors and storytellers. Watchmen is what introduced me to his work and manages to be a pretty good representation of his general style although these days he includes a lot more themes of esoteric spirituality and the occult.
I'd say my favorite works of his are From Hell and Promethea.
Also I wasn't a fan of the Watchmen movie. My biggest problem with it was that they made some of the characters "safe" for the audience to identify with. (But that's probably an argument for another time!)

I'm in the middle of the first volume of Rat Queens. Interesting characters, that's for sure.

That's my impression too, I think it's worth reading again or just get a better grip of the art, which is very precise in what it wants to do. (Loved those Orange/Blue transitions, in general the book has amazing colors)samsonlonghair wrote:Yes, the news stand scene is very meta.
Watchmen is the kind of story you need to go back and re-read a few times.
I was wary of reading it at first for that reason; I feared it was going to be "good for a superhero tale" in one way or another and was gadly surprised to find it stood on its own as a great book.Nemoide wrote:I loved Watchmen, really everything Alan Moore does is worthwhile IMO. Re: Comic Books & Graphic Novels - What are you reading?
So I'm just finishing up the DC One Million Omnibus, some very good stories and some that are just not very good. The only book not included was Young Heroes in Love. I'll be reading the iZombie Omnibus next and after that I think either Deadpool Omnibus vol 1 or AWC vol 1.
I just ordered the last of the comics I needed for Power of Shazam so I'll be sending that and Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam off to get custom bound into HC. That'll be a nice gift to myself in 2016. I also ordered the He-Man mini comic collection HC from Dark Horse. I've heard nothing but great things about this book and it's starting to sell out at various places so I wanted to make sure I got this.

Some great recent titles out right now. Lumberjanes is pretty awesome.
Finally got around to reading recent Thor, when *redacted* took up the hammer after Odinson proved unworthy. She kicks ass! Also love Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel. Marvel needs to start putting some of these awesome writers on the boy superheroes, too. The women are starting to outclass them.

How is Lady Haw...I mean Lady Thor? I haven't heard anything about it after the brouhaha stopped.
I'm still doing the same old thing, slowly gathering Fables and Walking Dead trades. I plan on grabbing the second Hack/Slash compendium when I can, but that might be a while. Thinking Southern Bastards is something to check, and I plan on starting on Hellboy pretty soon. I want to find some other stuff to read, but I haven't started looking at all yet. Gotta get my time better spent coming up next semester.

Well, the new Thor is well-written, and her character seems interesting enough. She slips into the role pretty well, and in fact does some new stuff Odinson didn't do as Thor. Seems Mjolnir plays to the strengths of the wielder. That said, Odinson is still around, and he's no pansy just because he lost his hammer, though he does spend a good amount of time moping around.

Say jmb, which binder do you use for your comics?jmbarnes101 wrote: I just ordered the last of the comics I needed for Power of Shazam so I'll be sending that and Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam off to get custom bound into HC.
I haven't had any volumes made (my money just goes elsewhere) or visited Uncollected Editions for several years, but I want to get back into it at some point as I have many issues set aside. I only ever tried Capitol back then, but they weren't cheap, and don't really seem to be an option these days.
Just curious who you'd recommend.
