Kojima quits?
Re: Kojima quits?
Capcom and Konami should merge, sell all their IP's, and be done with it.
Re: Kojima quits?
You guys realize they're pulling this shit so they can focus all their dev resources on Contra vs. Gradius: The Ultimate Showdown.

Hopefully they let Sega in on that.Xeogred wrote:Capcom and Konami should merge, sell all their IP's, and be done with it.

I'm trying to remember the last time Konami made a game themselves I enjoyed, not something they farmed out, and honestly I can't do it. It's probably some GBA game because they didn't give a crap about the Gamecube. Even throwing their farmed out stuff into the mix the last was that 3DS Castlevania game which is short but excellent.

Little known fact, almost every game has some part of it farmed out.Tanooki wrote:I'm trying to remember the last time Konami made a game themselves I enjoyed, not something they farmed out, and honestly I can't do it. I don't want Konami (or any other company) to get bought up, mergers don't help anybody out. They just result in a long (and in worst cases, permanent) state of that merged entity becoming extremely risk-adverse and only popping out sequels to the most well known titles refusing to do anything else. Like, if Capcom and Konami merged, all you'd see for the next 5 to 10 years are hastily produced Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid games, because that's the stuff that's guaranteed to sell regardless of how bad it is.
If I were in Konami's shoes, I'd probably start downsizing while licensing out properties to trusted developers. WayForward did a great job with Contra, let them do another Contra, or give them Castlevania (they've proven with the Shantae series they know that genre) or even something else entirely like Salamander or Gradius. Get Platinum to do another Revengeance. Honestly, WayForward's Contra 4 and Platinum's Revengeance are the only games with Konami's logo on them that as of late hasn't been crap aside from Kojima's output.
They have a few non-Kojima properties they haven't touched in a long while. Castlevania, Gradius, Frogger, Suikoden, Tokimeki Memorial, Beatmania, plus all the recent arcade games they could (and should) adapt to the home (i.e. non-Japanese) market like jubeat, Sound Voltex, etc.
They got so much stuff and they just aren't doing anything with it.

Re: Kojima quits?
Konami also owns Hudson Soft. There are a number of properties there that could be re-imagined into something useful.
Re: Kojima quits?
Yeah, I forgot about that... how long ago did they buy Hudson? Does it co-relate with the drop in quality releases from Konami?marurun wrote:Konami also owns Hudson Soft. There are a number of properties there that could be re-imagined into something useful.
edit: Hmm, looks like it happened in either 2001, 2011 or 2012, depending on how you look at it.
Re: Kojima quits?
So if Konami's stock goes in the toilet, I'll be in on the RB group buy if I have a shot at Bomberman and Silent Hill IPs.
Speaking of which... who's the majority owner of Capcom these days? Is it mjmjr25 or dsh?

That would be super weird if a group of random dudes from this forum ended up owning a classic IP.Omerta wrote:So if Konami's stock goes in the toilet, I'll be in on the RB group buy if I have a shot at Bomberman and Silent Hill IPs.
