Recommend an RTS?

I chip away at PA's Galactic War mode every so often. I have managed to beat one of the faction leaders on a small galaxy, but in general I find that I still need to figure out the proper way to build up my forces before a force of multiple CPU opponents can take me out.

I really think you made some great sugggestions guys, I really agree with C&C Red Alert and Total Annihilation. The former is very arcadey in its tactics, you have a lot of stuff that is very fun to use but also the possibility of just wacking the enemy or turtling.

Total Annihilation is the game that made me appreciate the genre's real-time focus so I can't recommend it enough.
