First you try to keep the gypsies out of racketboy, now you're complaining about the Chinese buying everything. I've got my eye on you.

Seriously though I'm really sorry to hear about all this Adam, I hope you can get all this settled. The baby is going to end up being born there right? Won't that change the situation at all?

I try to empathize with you, Adam, but hating the gypsies doesn't solve your own problem one bit. I'm sorry the UK government is giving you such trouble regarding immigration status.

Can't you see the irony that you suggest deporting gypsies?

I can see who should be prioritized. That's all I'll say.
Ugh. What an awful attitude. I'm with Samson, it's hard to feel empathy towards someone who is so clearly devoid of it themselves.

Look, I am as anti-bigotry as anyone but it seems that CERTAIN immigrants - those from anywhere in the EU, specifically - are being giving preferential treatment over OTHER immigrants, regardless of if they are married to a British citizen.

I mean, it doesn't seem unreasonable that someone who IS a British citizen should be able to, without much hassle, marry someone outside the EU and allow them to easily get a Visa without jumping through hoops or proving you make more than most in your country. By contrast, the idea that anyone at all from the EU can just immigrate to the UK without needing to "demonstrate the ability to integrate" (which is a ridiculous policy) or prove income is simply unfair.

I don't think the government should be making a distinction, really - but if they MUST I would side with Adam that they should extend easier immigration to the spouses of existing British citizens than they do to anyone at all who comes in from the EU.

The fact that they don't allow his wife is fucked up I will agree.

But the point of the EU is the freedom of movement of goods, capital AND people. You can't have those things separately. Can you imagine not being able to move from Ohio to California?

But I repeat the problem are politicians, the media, and the working class who get informed by the tabloids. I just saw the other day articles about how many people in the UK think that immigration is 3 times as large as it really, and that many (republican) Americans think the unemployment rate is 2 times what it really is. Those are important numbers, and any serious citizen should know what his country's vital statistics are.

But citizens prefer to listen to populists rather than look for the truth by themselves, cause the truth "hurts". And of course I consider my own country among the worst offenders of this.

.....but at least we allow the wives of Greeks who marry abroad to move here....just saying.

Your assessment that Republicans or conservatives think the unemployment rate is higher seems wrong to me. The more liberal political view is to typically harp on unemployment rates and economic gloom to support more stringent government control.

What you probably hear is more partisan type stuff that the one side uses to paint the others as being inept. For example, those saying Obama is causing unemployment or some such thing.

I stand corrected.

I just mean both sides do the blame game as you I am sure are well aware. But typically the more liberal base was calling out the economic state to promote social funding such as unemployment and the like.

I see nowhere in his post that refers to conservatives or republicans. This country is full of idiots, both conservatives and liberals like to harp on unemployment numbers, one side saying it is all Obama's fault, the other to talk about how much good he's doing. It would make sense that people think the numbers are higher than they are. I mean I'm sure the majority of the country couldn't pick out New York on a map there's no way in hell they're going to remember a couple of constantly changing numbers.
