Now west of Garan and working on:
trying to neutralize the poison that Milich is using. Got a boat and visited an old man who got kidnapped by Milich ... so now I'm headed for a prison(?) not sure about that last part.

I like this game and I'm not entirely sure why. It's story is shallow and the party battles are fairly routine. You just upgrade equipment until you're stomping everyone, doesn't seem to be any real reason to get a certain rune or anything. But, the music is really catchy and I like the way the spritework is done. Plus the army v. army stuff is unique and breaks up the pace nicely and is a good incentive towards collecting characters.

I think I'm going to give this a game a go this weekend, I have both 1 and 2 and really want to play 2 eventually since I paid like $80 for it. What is the best online guide for Suikoden 1 and 2? Preferably one with color maps and not just a text FAQ. Was there ever an official Guide? There is an official guide for 2 but I can't seem to find a scanned PDF file for it online.

Found out a little too late regarding getting all the characters, blegh.
Pahn bit it, didn't think there was anything I could do about it. :(

Just took out the army at the North something-something and heading after General Kasim.

Yeah, I remember that being an early myth, that you couldnt save him.

Watch out for characters eating it in the 'massive' battles, too. They don't come back.

I haven't been playing this as much as I've meant to, but I finished the Soniere Prison. I really hate the change to Gaspar's mini-game. I used to make all of my money from it, but it's barely playable in this version.

Yeah I lost a guy this way once and I just reloaded, luckily I had just saved.

What's the change to Gaspar's game? I've only done it a couple of times, it seems like money hasn't really been an issue for me. Also who is "Tir"? Based on context I would say possibly Teo and it is different between Japanese version on US? You refer to them in an early post in this thread.

So I'm really close to the end, I'm back in the capital. I'm three people short of 108 and I'm not sure if I'm going to get them since I screwed up the thing I mentioned above. One of them is Crowley and looking up how to get him sounds like a pain. Not sure who the other two are, I went through the list last night and couldn't pick out which ones were missing.

Usually you play against Gaspar by trying to get a higher score, and certain combinations will give instant wins or losses. (Outcomes are generally determined by party LUK stats.) In the Saturn version, you try to guess what the sum of the three dice will be by picking a certain range of numbers, each with different payouts: x2-x30.

Tir is the unofficial name for the main character from the novelization of the game. He's commonly referred to as "Tir" by the Suikoden fan base. At least in the West, anyway.

If you're past the fight with Sonya Shulen, it doesn't really matter, but did you get Rubi (in the Kobold village), and Clive in the inn southwest of Garan? Leon is usually a tricky bitch. Maybe Pesmerga or Fuma. Shot in the dark, but possibly Templeton. I'm relatively certain you can't actually recruit anyone else after setting out for Gregminster, though.

Yeah, I'm past that fight, but I think I have a save from before it. I have Rubi, but not Clive I think. Have Pesmerga and Fuma and my God I can't imagine this game without Templeton ... that was huge getting that map. I looked it up and I think it might be two guys you get from the Northern Checkpoint? Max and somebody else.
