I have to agree with alienjesus. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus - unlike Earthboud - are both once-in-a-lifetime transcendental emotional experiences in the vein of Majora's Mask and Silent Hill 2. If you can't see that after looking back through some of the previous posts, you may be missing something.dsheinem wrote:See, i don't find Ico to have any significant emotional impact, especially compared to stuff like SotC.alienjesus wrote:Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are amazing. In that respect, they remind me of such great games as Earthbound, Silent Hill 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. You aren't a gamer if you haven't experienced these games at least 5 times each.

Re: Ordered 8 PS2 Essentials
I just picked up a SCPH-90001 at Goodwill last night for twenty dollars. I think this is the last model Sony produced. It seems sturdier than my SCPH-75001. 90001 boots DVDs and PS1 games without a hitch; whereas, my 75001 has given up trying to play DVDs or PS1 titles. I like the build quality and I like the internal power supply. You can use a standard power cord for this model instead of looking for an 8.5 volt power supply.

I think this is the model collectors will prefer in the future.
While I was there, I found ONI. This one was not exactly a PS2 essential, but it was stylish. I felt a "Ghost in the Shell" vibe the whole time I played it.

Ah, Oni. I didn't get a PS2 at launch, and when I finally did receive one for Christmas around 2001 or so, Oni was the game I was given. I spent hours running through that one until I perfected it before finally trading it in. Years later, after game collecting had become an important part of my life, I found a copy of it for cheap and decided to bring it back into my collection. It currently sits between my copies of Obscure and Onimusha, and I'm pleased as punch to have it back amongst my games, where it holds an important place amongst games for one of my favorite consoles.

I don't know, I have to cry foul on the control argument here; especially when it's not being leveled against SotC. (Tell me Agro isn't one of the worst things to try to control, and I will slap you.)
The combat, and Yorda's AI, to me, are like "poor" controls in RE games. The combat would be mindless, and in no way affect the player's mental state if the enemies could just be rolled over with the light saber from the start. Ico is attempting to set the player against a feeling of a no-win scenario; and the wooden beam for a weapon, and Yorda's frailty are meant to drive this home. I don't really see how those mechanics can be faulted when they're largely intentional, and work within the construct of the game. I can understand how they're frustrating, because I've been frustrated by them. I've speed run Ico in under 2 hours for the PSN trophy, though, and I honestly don't think I could do that if the controls were as atrocious as some detractors have been want to argue.
I won't really fault anyone for not liking the game, though; the story is suttle, and not all that remarkable, inevitably. However, the journey and the gameplay/puzzles are quite special, I feel.

Sounds like every Demons Soul and Dark Souls fan ever, they preach it like it is the best game ever, you must try this challenge!!! if you dont play them, you are a pussy!dunpeal2064 wrote:I think its adorable when people love a game so much that they get too excited about it. If they were preaching religion at me it would be irritating, but seeing someone argue that their game is the best game ever invented and is some transcendental experience is just endearing to me.AppleQueso wrote: All of them are excellent games, of course, but people need to calm down.
