As a system, Vita by far. If every 3DS game was available on Vita, that'd be the system I'd choose to play them on. When I picked up Arkham Origins Blackgate, I went with the Vita version and given how easy it was to use the touch screen for scanning the environment, I can't imagine playing on 3DS and having to use that annoying stylus instead. But 3ds definitely has the edge on software, if we don't count backwards compatibility. Not just retail, but a lot of cool eshop titles too. I've recently been enjoying Steamworld Dig for example. However, Vita does have a library of quality games, but many of them are aimed at very specific tastes. It's more niche I think, whereas the 3DS offers a bit more variety.
Also, netflix rocks on the Vita. If anybody's interested in that. Things look fucking BEAUTIFUL on that oled, wide screen

The 2DS might be for you. No 3d and a lower entry costGirlGamer55 wrote:Ah now I don't have to make a thread about this. I too am wondering what to buy, since it's getting to be that time of year when stores/pawn shops have sales. And this time I actually have a bit of money to treat myself.
I wasn't too happy with the PSP when I first bought it, it's ok but nothing ground breaking. Same with the DS...I have a love hate relationship with the DS. Some games on it are wonderful, but it has a library of shit kid games and shovelware. Also the touch pen...I hate that fucking thing. I hated it when I first got my new DS and I hate it even more now since I misplaced my original DS somewhere in our basement so I bought a used one at a yard sale for like 5 bucks and the screen is all scratched to shit. It was cheap so not complaining much, but obviously those pens scratch the damn screen, the fuck was Nintendo thinking?
Anyways back on topic. I'm not a fan of 3D anything, but you can turn it off so that's a plus. I'd really only be getting the 3DS for the games, so I can play this gen's games and my old DS games. I'm not going to get the XL, since I don't see the point really, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a system I might not like. I just wonder is it worth getting a 3DS for the games, or instead to spend that money on buying games for retro consoles I all ready have?
I'm not exactly impressed with this gen's consoles, so no way in hell am I getting the PS4 or Xbox One. So it's really a matter of do I want to stay with consoles I know, or spring for a new one that I may or may not like?
Oh and bigger question, when buying a used 3DS (since I will not buy a new one), is there anything obvious I should know? Besides looking for screen scratches and if the damn thing works?

I heard it was kinda shit. Cheaply made, awkard to hold and kinda big issue, not exactly portable. Like the Sega Game Gear, that shit don't fit in pockets and would scratch the screen up if you stuck it in a bag. Given the prices I would just as soon buy the 3DS and get something quality, easy to hold and easy to put into a pocket or bag and go. Compairing prices at Gamestop (I know), it doesn't seem logical to get a 2DS when a 3DS is 30 bucks more.Jmustang1968 wrote:The 2DS might be for you. If you had kids and know they could break the 3DS while opening it or something, won0t you get them something less fragile?GirlGamer55 wrote:it doesn't seem logical to get a 2DS when a 3DS is 30 bucks more.
That's the whole point of the 2DS cheap and for kids who can break 150$ electronic devices.

Look for one with a good circle pad, preferably with the rubber on it cause it's easier to grip. My circle pad's rubber coating is coming off and now my thumb just slides all over wherever there isn't rubber.GirlGamer55 wrote: Oh and bigger question, when buying a used 3DS (since I will not buy a new one), is there anything obvious I should know? That would probably end up costing as much as a real 3DS.oxymoron wrote:You could always slap a Nerf case on the 2DS.

Re: 3DS XL vs. Vita
The 3DS library is so solid. So much so, that I currently couldn't care less about the upcoming next-gen consoles. There's just so many interesting titles on the 3DS I've yet to play, and with plenty more coming down the pipeline (Bravely Default, especially...yes!!) this handheld just keeps picking up more and more steam.
Also, hyper-sexualized beat-em-up Senran Kagura Burst finally hits the North American 3DS eShop this Thursday (Nov. 14th). The library just keeps getting better, and better, and tomorrow's 3DS-focused Nintendo Direct is about to add even more.

Re: 3DS XL vs. Vita
My brother-in-law got a 2DS and I had a chance to fool around with it. It's actually a LOT smaller than I thought it was going to be from the pictures everyone has seen online. And though it looked a little odd, I found it to be quite comfortable to hold and play.GirlGamer55 wrote:

Edit: I also agree that the upcoming 3DS library is REALLY putting a strain on my gaming budget.
