I quite enjoy the game. I like shoot-em ups, and this one gives a bit of a different theme and levels than the far too common space theme.

What do you think I should check next? The Lion King? Are Pocahontas and Pinoccio any good? I also remember the Jungle Book being fun (though I never owned it)
Castle of Illusion has a sequel called World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. I also recommend Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse which is fascinating if you're interested in Disney history. I do not recommend Fantasia. You can safely pass on that one.

The Lion King is a beautiful, but difficult game. The animation, colors, and music push the Genesis to its limits. The second level of Lion King has an Ostrich ride that reminds me of the infamous hovercraft level in Battletoads. You might be tempted to break out the game genie just for that level.

The Jungle Book is my favorite Disney game. This one has fun music, well designed levels, and challenging boss battles. The music will leave you humming "Bear Necessities" long after you're done playing. The levels are littered with secrets that reward your exploration. King Louie in particular was a challenging boss battle.
Don't forget about Quackshot. I think I might actually like it better than DuckTales.

Also, The Little Mermaid, TaleSpin, and Gargoyles or possibly Beauty and the Beast are worth a look. None of them are excellent, but perhaps competent.

Gargoyles holds up very well today (great graphics and animation). It's very hard though and if the combat had been tightened up more it would have been a great game not just good.

Seeing how much it's going for on eBay, I'd say not. I'd emulate it first, and then decide if it's worth having a physical copy in your collection.
cowboyscowboys wrote:Sometimes Sparkster on the Genesis gets overly criticized because it isn't quite as good as the original. Judged on it's own it is definitely one of the better platformers for the system.
Yeah, every time a series has a title not as good as its predecessor there's dipshits everywhere bitching about how it's the worst thing since Hitler.

Gunstar Green wrote: Also while not the same game I unquestionably prefer Mega Turrican over Super Turrican (and Super Turrican 2 but that's a way different game).
What are the differences? I've heard great things about those games too, I should really try them out one day.
I'd personally try Mega Turrican first. Super Turrican is good (and a li'l closer to the C64 originals) but it's not as fun as Mega Turrican. Mega feels more action-packed due to its linearity and smaller stage designs. The larger stages in Super give the game a bit more of a slower, more methodical pace.
Gunstar Green wrote:Super Turrican is still pretty decent but apparently Factor 5 was forced to use a smaller cartridge at the last minute and had to make some hasty cuts that cause the game to end rather abruptly. You never even get to face the intended final boss who shows up in the intro. I like it, it just feels really unfinished compared to Mega Turrican because it is.
Hmm, so that explains why the game ends right after you fight the Alien Queen.

Does it have the killer intro music?

I was very impressed with the graphics, when I got my copy a few months back.

But the level layout can get confusing. You're not sure if you can walk "behind" a wall or if it's solid.

No it doesn't. Overall the music is crappy, very quiet except for some drum samples that are decent. It's using the Gems sound engine so your going to get music quality Genesis haters love to use as an example for it having a crappy sound chip.

I want to weep. This topic needs more activity!

I just bought Outrun 2019, and I don't care what anyone says, its a ton of fun.

And the music is just awesome. Relight My Fire gets me all excitable.

And just think! In six short years we will all have cars equipped with booster rockets that max out at 684 mph while we ramp across broken sections of elevated highways.

Count me as another Gynoug fan. Nice level of challenge and a unique (-ish) look and style.

I just bought Bio Hazard Battle (PAL version) and it won't play on my Japanese console. Is there a workaround? I've already removed the cartridge lock on the console. I presume this is a software based lock?
