Apparently, the publisher of the game will be allowed to choose if they want their game to require it or not.

Actually, reading that article makes it sound like if a game like League of Legends was on the PS4 then Riot could decide that you don't need PS+ to play it. It specifically calls out free-to-play multiplayer games. Actual retail titles would still require a PS+ subscription.

I did the pre order about an hour after they were available on Amazon, looking now, seems like I made the smart choice. It will be interesting to see how this plays out this holiday season, will people get shot over the ps4 like they did over the ps3? Will people actually spend thousands of dollars on ebay when none are to be found on store shelves?

Just pre ordered mine on Amazon. However it looks like I waited a few days too late now, as they only have the "Standard" edition available, instead of the "Launch" edition.

I remember the madness around the Wii a few years ago, and I have a feeling this is going to be 10x worse.

If I wanted to play FF XIV: ARR on PS4 would I have to pay for two online services?

I doubt it. They've stated that F2P MMOs won't.

FFXI on 360 works with only a Silver XBL account as well. So, there's precedent for SE making sure you didn't need to pay for it twice.

Are people seriously incapable of waiting a few months until a console is readily available to the general public? I don't get it...

Also - no Final Fantasy XV on Wii U? Bummer.

I was watching Giant Bomb Live last night. At 1 in the morning, a Sony dev brought a surprise PS4, stand and controller for them to look at. The system itself actually looks great. It reminds me of a slightly deeper, slightly slimmer PlayStation 2 (looks like the dimensions might be closer to the super slim PS3).

The thing has tons of vents in the back. I hope it doesn't run hot.
