A full on Linux Console is a huge selling point.

I'm not sure how, considering for the $600 the system was selling for you could get a far more functional, you know, computer and put Linux on that. Didn't help that OtherOS locked out a good chunk of the hardware.

I don't think Sony was ever very secretive about removing linux support due to the hacks/mods community. Hospitals aside, they were probably the only people that really cared about having it on there.

I think the Air force was pretty pissed they bought a shit ton to use for whatever it was they were using them for.

The main legitimate thing that was fun about Linux on PS3 was it allowed you to mess with a ludicrously cheap blade server architecture. But that's about it.

In any case, Valve's official SteamBox will be Linux based ... so is OUYA, so.

As long as you don't update the firmware, you don't lose OtherOS. So i'd imagine that the air force (as well as the numerous other organizations that picked them up as cheap computers) probably didn't have much of a reason to care.
