It doesn't really matter what UG is "about". Yes, all those underprivileged people with computers and torrent clients and access to good internet connections that allow them to uphold a ratio on a private torrent site just can't afford their entertainment! My heart! It bleeds for them! It's not piracy man, it's sharing! Sharing is caring! We've managed to fully divorce ourselves from the word stealing because we're only sharing. Sharing is good, right? Who cares if what we're sharing doesn't belong to us! Sharing is GOOD!wclem wrote:I think UG is more about letting people enjoy something who otherwise may not have access to it. Some people who download actually do it because they cannot afford to enjoy these things otherwise. Just because someone can afford to pay for all the luxuries they want does not mean that they alone are ENTITLED to it. Everyone, regardless of income should be able to enjoy the same things. UG just leveled the playing field a little. This is all it comes down to.

I'm completely happy with the state of emulators for all the things I like to play. I have no want whatsoever to collect up all the physical carts and systems and such. I've already been there once, and it means absolutely nothing.

What, that sharing is good because I like emulating?
Oh dear, you've gone and boarded the serious train. Alright, I'll join you, toot TOOT!
I suppose the argument you're trying to generate here is that because I enjoy emulating games that I must be a part of the sharing is caring crowd, skull and crossbones at full mast and plundering all the torrents I can plunder on the high seas of the internet.
I'm simply debating and being a little tongue in cheek here, regardless of what my own personal thoughts/actions are. How dare I forget that there are people out there behind their keyboards, ready to virtually pants someone on the internet by thinking they're oh-so-clever as to conflate my contributions to this thread with what I might actually feel, think and believe. Even when my tone is clearly not serious in the slightest.
Well, as I sit here at my keyboard, pants around my ankles, I'm not sure what my next move should be. Shame? Nah, I look pretty great with my pants off! Embarrassment? Nah, I'm not embarrassed to enjoy emulation. Should I feel stupid? Nah, I'm not the one making the leap across the chasm to try and shame someone in lieu of actually contributing to the discussion.
Guess I'll sit here for a little while longer and enjoy the breeze between my knees while I giggle about what a hysterical post you made. May we meet again in another thread!

I'm quite certain that his argument is that you're a hypocrite. Based on the tone of your posts, it's quite possible that it's even implied that you're an obnoxious hypocrite. Though that might just be me drawing conclusions as a result of suffering through the embarrassing mess that is last three paragraphs you just posted.irixith wrote: I suppose the argument you're trying to generate here is that because I enjoy emulating games that I must be a part of the sharing is caring crowd, skull and crossbones at full mast and plundering all the torrents I can plunder on the high seas of the internet.

We all know that being a hypocrit instantly invalidates the original arguement.irixith wrote:Oh good lord.Menegrothx wrote:I'm quite certain that his argument is that you're a hypocrite. I hadn't been to UG in quite a while. Usually though if I'm going to pirate something I get it from newsgroups.
