Backwards compatibility would be nice, but I'll just keep my PS3. And PS2, heh.

Makes you wonder, when will the last day be to redownload a digital game to your PS3. If they say indefinetly or till SONY is out of business that would be alright. But if they "turn off" the ability to redownload digital games 15 years from now. There goes some of my retro collection. Hey i have FF6 now, and several other PSOne classics games.

Just back up everything to an external HDD. Problem solved.env963 wrote:Makes you wonder, when will the last day be to redownload a digital game to your PS3. Well after my enthusiasm for the 3DS died cause of lack of original game concepts, and the Wii U proved to be boring outside a Lego game and Zombi U, this machine has me greatly excited.
Sony seems to be really pushing it to have great developer support, the new dual shock seems great (I think the touchpad is a better idea than the screen on the Wii U), and most of all it will have a software market ala google play and app store, so I can't wait to see what the game industry will do with a mass market dedicated games machine with an awesome controller and an open....ish digital market. I was expecting this to come from the Steam Box first, but maybe Sony can do it better? We shall see.
I know I'm saving up money for this one though...

If you wish to extend the serviceability of your PS3 custom firmwares are a valid option, like the PS2's HDLoader before it. However whereas the PS2's failure was mostly in the optical drive section, which HDLoader easily circumvented, PS3s tend to fail completely. No use worrying about the future though..

Touchpad is a shitty knock off off the nice Wii U controller.

It's actually closer in design with the Vita's rear touch pad.SamuraiMegas wrote:m opinion is opposite.

And probably uses a capacitive pad as opposed to the Wii U's resistive screen.

The thing is (at least according to my opinion) that both the Wii's and Wii U's controllers have proved how important a quick way to select things on screen has been to provide solutions in some game design problems.SamuraiMegas wrote: m opinion is opposite.

But the thing with the Wii U is that looking down on the second screen is not as quick, cause you are taking you attention away from the screen. But with the touch pad, you don't even have to look at the controller and you can make the quick selection by just pressing on it.
Mind you I agree that the Wii U controller can be used for more interesting game ideas, but as you've seen from the upcoming releases, and what's been released so far, very few game developers are really willing to take a risk on novel game ideas.

I'm hearing PSN purchases will not carry over, but I'd like to know if that's been clarified yet... with PS3 games it makes sense and wouldn't be a huge issue to me, but if classics/PSN original games also don't carry over I think that'd be pretty stinky. Imagine getting a new computer and along with it your Stream library gets wiped, lol.
You gotta love how Sony took out the PS2 laser/hardware from PS3's after awhile to cut down on the cost, now the Cell is coming back to haunt.
Backward compatibility isn't a deal breaker for me at all, but if we're gonna lose access to digital stuff as well that's going to suck. With physical media it's completely different, but I'd really hate to start having a multitude of invisible "digital shelves" per console/services and whatnot, that'll just get nasty after awhile. Steam, PSN, and XBL is already enough for me.

AS is the case with any disc-based release, every PSN game that was designed for PS3 (e.g. Flower, PixelJunk games, SSF2HD, etc.) had to be created/ported to work with the PS3's hardware architecture. Since the PS4 doesn't have similar hardware architecture (e.g. no cell chip), it isn't reasonable to think that they can just easily allow you to play all these games again through some kind of emulation. For those games to work on a PS4 there would have to be some major coding work done to port them and essentially get them to run "natively" on a PS4.Xeogred wrote:I'm hearing PSN purchases will not carry over, but I'd like to know if that's been clarified yet... with PS3 games it makes sense and wouldn't be a huge issue to me, but if classics/PSN original games also don't carry over I think that'd be pretty stinky...With physical media it's completely different,
