What would you do with 4 months in Japan?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

They come in many different colors so they're not all black
Wow. They weren't kidding when they said Japanese hands are small.

Seems like it would be entirely too uncomfortable to try to use the d-pad on that hori pad.

How could I forget that one? I've done a lot of campaigning in Japan on the US not being nearly as unsafe as the average Japanese person assumes it to be. Seems to fall on deaf ears most of the time, though.

I spent a year in Japan recently and just returned last September. If I could go back for an extended period I would probably focus on completing my CIB wonderswan collection, I only have about 60 games to go, and I would also expand my Neo Geo AES collection as Japanese Neo Geo games are pretty affordable compared to buying on eBay.

I met someone from Russia that was convinced the US was less safe than his homeland, because we have guns. It's not like we're just gonna whip out our pieces and start shooting just because we can.

Sure they will; they just won't have much of a life to begin with.

I could name names, but see your earlier quoted comment and my reply.

You teach? I've got friends who teach out-of-state and in foreign countries, but they always seem to be placed in the most remote areas. (One extreme case was that they were in a cell-phone free rural town -- commutes were 6 hours round trip to the hotel at the edge of the city.) In most of the situations I can remember, private teacher's pay was pretty limited -- everyone had to acclimate themselves to the local cuisine (usually some fried meat on a stick) because it would be all they could afford or was available in the region (and 7-11 food does a number on your insides after a few weeks). The domestic teaching trade remains the same, but has the overseas scenario changed much?

Japan has a district named Arnold now?

It's always worth it for RSG. Or most Saturn stuffs. Not sure about the OSTs considering the frequency of YouTube clips popping up. Perhaps more limited-edition memorabilia... like toys.

(Did I ever inquire about that rare, black, PS2 ASCII one-handed controller I'd willingly sell my blood for? ...just not around Thanksgiving.)

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

I remember my old classmate who was from Russia told me that his big brother's pal shot 2 guys (and wounded 1 IIRC) with a shotgun for self defence and some of his family members/friends back in Russia got shot or stabbed. They've got a bit over 2 times the homicide rate of the US these days, the situation was much worse during 1999-2004 (31-33k homicides a year, where as nowadays the number has dropped to 11.5k)
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I would love to revisit all the places I spent quality time in 98-99. I never did give Kichijoji a fair shot, and I need to spend time there when I actually have money. Also, more time at Mitaka and visit the Ghibli museum. I have 3 friends I'd like to check in on, two who have young children. Wouldn't have to leave Tokyo to do it.

And 4 months wouldn't be enough time to do everything I truly want to do...

It was definitely very cool and I recommend it for animation fans that are going to be in the general area.

They need to stop being ageist and let adults on the cat-bus too, though. >_>
