I think that neither is very good. Most of the time you are shooting at defenseless enemies from afar and only the ocassional wave of enemies is a problem.
I beat the DS version and everytime I ask myself why wasn't I playing Robotron instead.
Both are the same game so take the one you can use more.
Strongly disagree when you say neither is very good. There is a reason why Geometry Wars made a splash on XBLA when it first appeared: the game is great, hectic fun.
Both Wii and DS versions are solid, but the Wii game benefits from a bigger screen and different control options. You can also link up the two games to unlock some bonus levels. Getting Galaxies for $5 is an absolute steal if you like arcade games and chasing high scores. I'd highly recommend it.
One note: Geometry Wars really is best with dual analog, but keep in mind that Wii Classic Controllers often have that weird octagon that prevent you from getting a smooth circle motion.

Popularity isn't a measure for quality.
Most stages are spent shooting against defenseless enemies that either don't do anything (purple ones) or follow you slowly with a very vulnerable pattern (green squares). Most of the time you will be shooting these guys which is boring and when other enemies appear, they all do kamikaze runs against you that are evaded by any evasive manuveur (Magnets, for example).
This is a shooting game and the targets you shoot are boring. The waves are boring, the enemies are boring and I always felt I was ploughing through filler to get to the good parts, which never came.
Looking for a cool game? Find it in my blog! Latest post: Often, games must be difficult http://eriktwice.com/
-Bit Trip Series (Wii Ware) - An audio and visual feast that will test your skills.
-Cave Story (Wii Ware) - One of the most underrated games of all-time. Metroidvania gameplay with a very charming setting and cast of characters and some puzzle and RPG elements thrown in.
-Donkey Kong Country Returns - I love the Donkey Kong Country series. The level-design and gameplay are just so well thought out in these games and they play almost rhythmically.
-Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - One of the best uses of the Wii's waggler...ahem, "WiiMote".
-Metroid: Other M - More story-driven than most Metroid games, but still a great game in a great series.
-New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Great traditional 2D Super Mario platforming, polished to that special Nintendo shine.
-Rayman: Origins - Beautiful both visually and musically and great 2D platforming.
-Super Mario All-Stars - If you don't already have these games individually, or the original release of this collection on the SNES; then I HIGHLY recommend getting this one. Some of the best platforming games, nay, some of the best games EVER on this collection.
-Super Paper Mario - Nice twist on 2D gameplay and it was a fun Mario game.
-Wii Sports & Sports Resort - Just plain fun to play with people.
I haven't had the chance to play Epic Mickey or Legend of Zelda: Twilight Sword yet, but would love to. To tell the truth, I haven't played Donkey Kong Country Returns other than in the store for a couple minutes. But I already know I love the Donkey Kong Country series so it just seems like a no-brainer for me (and it's only a matter of time before it's in my collection, I just haven't come across that deal on it yet).
I really like the Virtual Console service, too. It let me try out some games that were otherwise hard to find or too expense to be a practical purchase for me like Lords of Thunder on Sega CD, Chrono Trigger on SNES, and Breath of Fire 2 on SNES.

As a die hard Twinsticker I have to speak up! You do need the right controller if you love Robotron. The Wii has the best version and even features a cross unlock with the DS version. Seriously give it another go with at least a Classic Controller. Then do the game justice and hookup a Twin Arcade Stick with a Mayflash adapter.
Sadly I haven't spent a ton of time with the Wii since buying it a few years back . Actually think I played more game cube games then wii games on it :X.
However my favorites out of the few wii titles I own were Trauma Center: Second Opinion, and The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces.
I love the Wii, but have only really enjoyed it over the last year. I was an Xbox 360 owner previous to that but just got sick of going through console after console. The thing I love most about the Wii is that I literally don't need another console any time soon, as I can play NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube and Wii games all through one device. I've been sampling the delights of N64 Zelda, Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger, games that I missed out on whilst growing up. Other than Rayman Origins and Twilight Princess, I've barely scratched the surface of the Wii library.
I just hope Nintendo supports the Wii's Virtual Console a while longer so that I can still discover classics in years to come.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

^ 2012 was a pretty slow year for Virtual Console releases IIRC. SNK seems interested in still releasing new items. I do fear once the WiiU virtual console ramps up that you may be out of luck.
I always thought it was interesting how certain SNK games were released on different systems. Street Slam is ONLY available on the Wii VC for example.
