Good to know, thanks.Niode wrote:
Don't really have to worry about a solid state system like the wii-u. The PS3 doesn't like being turned off because of its physical HDD. The Wii-U is flash memory so it won't really matter if the power gets tripped. I've only heard of people having crashing systems on here though so far... maybe you guys are just unlucky?

Because not everyone is savvy about electronics and companies other than Sega insist on often giving similar names to new systems to drive recognition so some of those same not so savvy think maybe stuff will work since the name is almost the same (or is the same in their minds). The fact that there has been some spotty compatibility between systems confuses the average consumer more IMHO.SamuraiMegas wrote:...why the fuck woul a Wii U game work on a wii?

Well Since they have the capability to why not? Just because Nintendo doesn't want to pay licensing fee's. I'll buy a wii u once Pikmin 3 comes out due to my love for the series, but when it's gas for two weeks or a wii u, im going to choose the gas. And I'm certainly no troll. I'm just insensitive and stereotypically American. I removed emission equipment from my car because otherwise that 8.2 litre v8 outputs maybe 180HP. Without it i run a solid 350-380 HP. Guys like me running cars like this is a drop in the bucket as far as pollution goes though. I did almost pick up a bumper sticker that stated "In loving memory of the environment" once but rethought it lol.

Certainly they are in the bad state.. But the gaming division is profitable.. They won't be gone for a long time and gaming will probably be one of the last divisions to go under if they do... TV is what's bleeding them..Niode wrote: Sony's finances are in the toilet... Won't be long until they've gone now.

One of the most ridiculous statements I've seen.. So you would buy a console if you liked it over everyday necessities? This thread says there may be a patch next week - I've only had freezing issues in Nintendo Land. Played SMBU for a couple hours tonight with no issue (thankfully).

My experience (which was only once but whatever) it does seem software/internet feed based. I'm sure Nintendo will be patching it soon. In the modern years they have the best record of making sure hardware keeps running. This thread says there may be a patch next week - I've only had freezing issues in Nintendo Land. This is a subsidized hardware argument, and it's kind of ridiculous, because those devices are NOT $300. You might pay $100-$300 ... with a service agreement, but if you went out and bought them outright, they start at $500 or $600.isiolia wrote:Considering that cell phones/tablets are expected to meet/surpass 360 level power in 2013...no, I don't really find it that impressive that a $300+ dedicated gaming device isn't shooting a bit higher.
It's OK to compare $500 devices to $300 devices? That's a strange argument.
Honestly, these king of arguments sound more like people are annoyed Nintendo minimizes subsidizing their hardware as much as possible. That's just crazy. Why would you expect standard operating practice to be for hardware manufacturer's to lose money when you buy hardware? It usually just leads to entirely unstable business practices and shady deals.
KDub, you got an awesomely good point there.

No, actually, it isn't.Cronozilla wrote: This is a subsidized hardware argument, and it's kind of ridiculous, because those devices are NOT $300. You might pay $100-$300 ... with a service agreement, but if you went out and bought them outright, they start at $500 or $600.

Sure, if you go out to buy an off-contract phone many of them would jump to the $500-600 range. 'course, there are those you can buy for $300 as well (or could were they not sold out).
However, the focus is not what a packaged up devices costs so much as what the capabilities of the various system-on-a-chips they tend to base them on will be in the next year or two.
It's not just subsidized phones that run on them, but iPods Touches, 7" tablets like the Nexus 7, and so on that start at a hundred bucks less than the Wii U, unsubsidized (not selling at a loss either).
The SoCs themselves tend not to be the expensive parts. In fairness, the Wii U's APU likely isn't either. But, that market is moving very quickly right now, with expectation that 2013 will see chips that meet or beat the 360's capabilities.
We're close to being able to buy a Tegra 3 based tablet with better features all around than the GamePad (Nexus 7) and a Tegra 3 based home console (Ouya) for a combined price point meeting the Wii U's. Really, the only reason we can't now is that the Ouya isn't out yet.
Give it a year or two, and chances are you'll be able to do that with devices that each pack more power than the Wii U.
Regardless, my point was that the power use isn't that impressive.
It's like marveling at what the 3DS does in a portable device when, relatively speaking, its specs are laughable compared to what else is out there.
I think comments aren't complaining about not taking a loss on hardware (well, they are, albeit a minor one), but more hoping for better. Realistically, Nintendo had to compromise a lot to fit the two screen setup in at the price point.
Re: Nit Picking on the WII U? thoughts....
I'd like to slightly update some of my previous posts about Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed on the Wii U. I have downloaded and played the demo on the Xbox 360 to compare. It turns out that the Wii U version really isn't that bad. And honestly it's hard to notice much if any difference between the two. There are some slight graphical glitches in a couple of stages in the Wii U version, but I don't know if they're present in other versions since the demo doesn't contain those particular stages. Also, the surround sound in the Xbox 360 version seems to be a bit better/more active, but not a mindblowing difference or anything. Still no subwoofer. Must be a game design choice not to have any. Obviously this was a rushed port, but I'm surprised they did as good of a job as they did.
