+1

I don't have any hopes at this point that Sony will even use common sense for the next Playstation. Not that I'm overly concerned, the PS3 marked the decline of the Japanese games industry.

It's definitely not in line with the PSone or PStwo. If you look at and feel the PSone, you immediately detect the level of engineering that went into it. They made it more efficient, both economically and electronically, but also made it better; sturdy, attractive, and reliable. You can sense they truly attempted to make a superior product despite the streamlined design. The PStwo is similarly engineered. The old model seems clunky and quaint against the redesign.

These new PS3 models remind me of Nintendo and their Super NES Jr. One look and you can tell they went for "cheap" and not "better".

I find it better. I don't trust slot loaders.

The problem is the cheapness of the design. They could have made it like the PSone and PS2 slim (top open), thus making it feel like the expensive piece of hardware that it is.

Now? It looks like one of those chinese imitations with roms in them.

Really? The PS2 Slim lid feels flimsy as hell. It doesn't feel expensive at all. I'd rather have something like this, honestly.

I went to the Tokyo Game Show the other day, took some pics of the new PS3.

Definitely different in person. Very sleek.

On a side note, I really liked the Yakuza 5 booth.

FYI: That is very expensive whiskey they've got back there.
(Perhaps just filled with tea) :P

Looks fine to me. I wish it were matte instead of glossy, but I will still be getting one.

I would also say that it does look better in the photos you took. Similarly, I thought the 3DS XL looked awful in promo shots but looks great in person.

So they went from fingerprint collecting glossy, to sensible textured, to grooved dust collector?

Good point. Why couldn't the whole thing just be a flat matte color? They could keep the slidey top loading thing, but why the grooves?
