You act like people are just shitting on Sega for no reason when they say that they aren't doing well as a company right now.
Facts and reality, man. Just because you like a company doesn't mean that they can't fail.

Actually trying to make a free-to-play mmo is pretty much exactly what I'd expect a struggling game company to do.

Oh shit~ That's funny cuz it's true (it still makes me sad though to realize it's true).AppleQueso wrote:Actually trying to make a free-to-play mmo is pretty much exactly what I'd expect a struggling game company to do.

Er, what? I don't think Shenmue Online ever even made it out of alpha.... I would have tried my damndest to play it if it had. The target audience was for China and Korea, though, and that was a very fiscally minded move. The overhead is steep, but collecting monthly dues from a country as nuts about MMOs as South Korea is far more profitable in the long run than a money pit like Shenmue III would be.Breetai wrote:Not "gonna", they "did" it. It was out and online in China.dreamcast4ever83 wrote:Also I wanted to add I remember they were gonna do shenmue online mmo which seemed a little odd tome but I was excited for anything after shenmue 2. My question was is it gonna follow storyline after 2 or is it just in the shenmue world with battling and such.
From what I remember Shenmue online was to be set in Hong Kong with some cameos from Shenmue characters, but otherwise a bit loosely tied to the series.
Anyway, Shenmue III just isn't happening. I really think the series is better off finished as a CG styled movie, because as much as I love Shenmue, the gameplay just wouldn't be the milestone in gaming today that it was in 2000. Don't get me wrong, if the game were released, I'd play it (I'd play the hell out of it) but I'm fairly certain it just wouldn't live up to the expectations built up from 12-14 years of anticipation.
It's probably not my place to say this, but dc4ever, you actually get a lot of feedback from people in the topics you create, but instead of really discussing differing opinions, you seem to dismiss others' opinions, and dwell exclusively on your own. It's great that you can maintain a child-like sense of optimism, and it's possible that we're all just jaded, but I think most everyone who wants to discuss your topics with you would thank you if you also dropped the childishness, and reacted in a way other than stamping your feet and pouting when someone disagrees with you. Just something to think about.

I'm not sure how far along it was, but I do seem to remember that it was available to play online at some stage. I doubt it was fully completed, but it do I think I remember it was in a playable state (perhaps just for public testing?).pierrot wrote:Er, what? Not denial. You're outright ignoring facts as they are presented to you. That's beyond fanboyism. It's fanatical.Yes i get called in denial or fanboy or whatever but I still am sticking to my gun a company thats dieing out does not make worldwide free to play mmo
Companies lie all the time, and Sega is not beyond that. I don't see how you can't seem to grasp that, except that you really are into Sega so much that you believe anything they say.
I'm a bit of a Sega fanboy. I will often choose the same game on a Sega system than on a Nintendo or Sony system; JUST because it's on Sega. I much prefer like Tomb Raider or DoDonPachi on the Saturn over the PS1, despite those games being "better" on the PS1. That's being a fanboy.
