Welcome to Racketboy.
I present to you this verse from the Bible:
Why do you look at the spot of dust in your brother's eye? But you do not see a big stick in your own eye!

There is a huge difference between an action rpg like Star Ocean or Tales of, and an action game like Legend of Zelda.
Action rpgs have combat systems... Zelda is hack n slash.
That's exactly it. If you define Zelda games are RPG games at all, then the qualifications uses also apply to things like Metroid games, Devil May Cry type games, etc. Are those RPGs? The only difference is the view point and a greater focus on interactive story over cut-scenes.
those are platformers, zelda is an over head view.
Here's a thought that I'm just throwing out there. Doesn't the very fact that people constantly argue over whether or not Zelda is an rpg prove that it's not an rpg?
I mean nobody questions whether or not Final Fantasy or an Elder Scrolls game is an rpg, because all the tell tale signs are there. Nobody asks if a Monkey Island game is a PC adventure game. Of course it's a PC adventure game. People debate this Zelda thing all the time because it's clearly missing many of the components that constitute an rpg, hence, it's not an rpg.

It's an adventure, with a hint of RPG...
Just like music, a game can never be put in just one box. It's a mix of things...

WTF?
What does the view have to do with the genre? Also, none of those games are platformers. Metroid games aren't even really platformers. Do you even know what a platformer is? I mean, if you have to get the specifics of why Zelda isn't an RPG, then I wonder.

A major flaw is also the word RPG itself. Face it, it doesn't say shit. If you just look at the term, anything could be an RPG. A game, in which you play the role of someone or something...
So from now on Virtua Tennis should be referred to as a Sports RPG...

Now you have me wondering if there's ever been a sports RPG.
