I believe so. You could also get a USB drive and boot the apps off of there (granted that the app allows this, some still don't).

im having a new minor problem when i go into an emulator with my classic controller plugged into my wii mote it crashes to a black screen with tons of numbers and i have to litterally unplug my wii to restart it, but if i start an emulator with nothing plugged into my wiimote and then plug in the classic controller once the game starts everything works fine. its just kinda annoying.
edit*
i have also noticed that i get input lag when using the classic controller but i have none when just wiimote. i tested this in super mario world on the snes jumped around with the classic controller then unplugged it and used the wiimote sideways and all the input lag was gone. is this a common thing? maybe i should try a gamecube controller but the input lag using the classic controller makes platformers and shmups virtually unplayable its not alot of input lag but its certainly enough to mess you up.
more edit*
i just tested a gamecube controller and no input lag, well this is reassuring but id much rather use my classic controller as the button layout is much better for snes games and the dpad is not full of fail... i wonder why classic controller has lag

wow i think i just figured out why.... i think my classic controller is a fake!!! i bought it at a retro game store so i never had the box. but no where on it does it say nintendo, on the back it has the space where it would say nintendo but its just blank, it does however say wii on the front. perhaps someone could confirm if there is supposed to be a nintendo imprinted on the back.

i use one of
these and it works great. No lag and it works with games that support classic controllers (Mega Man 9 with NES pad FTW!)

If it doesn't have Nintendo branding on it, that could be a fake. Does anything else seem off? If it uses Phillips screws instead of triwing that would be a good indicator.
I did a quick google search and it seems that the emulators do have a bad habit of screwing up with 3rd party/fake Classic controllers.

For a lot of the classic emulators (NES, SMS, Genesis, PC Engine etc) you can just turn the wii mote sideways.
For others that require 3 buttons to Joystick and all the works you'd be better off using a Gamecube controller probably. I know you can buy adapters to plug in various controllers to the Wiimote or Gamecube ports (RetroUSB and Think Geek sells them) and there are instructions for mods out there but if all the emulators and homebrew will work right is iffy.

Yeah, bootleg classic controllers have a history of not working well with Wii emulators. It's the officail way or the highway, unfortunately.
As for plugging up a Saturn controller you can read this thread...

I no longer own a wii but was able to use the Saturn PS2 pad with gcn/wii hardware with an adapter that has been off the market for many years. It worked well except the L and R buttons did not map properly to C and Z buttons.
Also, USB Loader GX just recently got updated to 3.0! Which is a very nice update (officail GC support via DML!).

Now it’s possible to load GC games off an SD card all in the same loader as your wii games, but only from SD sadly, for hardware reasons.
So how's it working for you?
I tried it in CFG loader and it wasn't so good...
Also, is your ext.hdd fat32 or wbfs? (I know DML can only launch from SD but I was curious as to your set up.)

It's working great! DML 1.4d has pretty high compatibility, with the only games that have problems being ones with audio streaming. USB Loader GX also does a great job at being the loader, since it has a fantastic GUI (check out the latest 3.0 update).
My external HDD used to be formatted to WBFS, but then I made the swap to FAT32 using wbfs2fat. Which I vastly prefer and I needed to do so in order to use the new DIOS MIOS that will be released soon (USB support)...
