Ok, if thrift stores and RB sale threads aren't good enough for you, then stick to your beloved ebay. I don't see the point in arguing that stuff isn't cheap enough for you when by default you waste your money on overpriced ebay listings.sabrage wrote:Not going to point out any specific threads, and admittedly this could be entirely attributed to the games I'm interested in, but I've yet to open a For Sale thread and think "Wow! Re: The Nintendo Cartridge Market in General
It's not that it isn't cheap enough for me; it's an issue of availability and convenience. Like I said, I take no joy in clicking 15 threads, reading through each to see if there might be a game that I want, only to scroll down a little further to see that they're only interested in trading for games I can't/won't trade. It's not in any way a better use of my time than driving across town, trying to describe to the clerk what exactly I'm looking for, ("Super Nintendo? We don't get a lot of Wii games in here...") and still come home without finding a damn thing that made the trip worthwhile.
As a sidenote, I love the ironic holier-than-thou attitude that always seems to accompany anyone using the phrase "If _____ isn't good enough for you..."

Ok, then don't do it? Nobody is telling you that you have to, nor does anyone want to hear you bitch about it.sabrage wrote:It's not that it isn't cheap enough for me; it's an issue of availability and convenience. Ironic because you're the one with the "holier-than-thou" attitude? Since you seem to want to take on every comment made here and turn it into a debate.sabrage wrote:As a sidenote, I love the ironic holier-than-thou attitude that always seems to accompany anyone using the phrase "If _____ isn't good enough for you..."

So you have no proof then?sabrage wrote:Not going to point out any specific threads, and admittedly this could be entirely attributed to the games I'm interested in, but I've yet to open a For Sale thread and think "Wow! The difference is that I can go on Ebay, find the item I want within a couple minutes, click "buy" with no haggling, accepting a deal on terms that are clearly specified, and I can usually have the game on its way to me the following day. Sometimes I will even send the seller a private offer.harper wrote:Ok, if thrift stores and RB sale threads aren't good enough for you, then stick to your beloved ebay. Usually sellers on Ebay have enough "stock" that I can find several games I seek for one combined shipping cost, saving me even more time and money.
Compare this to a direct trade/purchase on a forum, which is often fruitless in finding the game I want in the first place. Then if I do, I have to go back and forth, sometimes with days between hearing a response, negotiating terms and clarifying the condition of the item, since there is often a lack of distinct photos.
Ebay is kind of like a superstore. I see nothing wrong with paying "retail" (in this case, market value) for the convenience offered, just as there is nothing wrong with someone shopping at the mall for clothes compared to browsing garage sales.

To save time if you know the specific titles you seek, use Google with this site as part of the search terms.sabrage wrote:I take no joy in clicking 15 threads, reading through each to see if there might be a game that I want
For example: "super mario bros." site:racketboy.com/forum
This will show you all of the forum posts that contain the title, and you can more quickly discover that no one has what you want.

I typically just bookmark some of the larger sellers. Only takes me about 4-5 minutes to sort through threads here.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: The Nintendo Cartridge Market in General
I am familiar with this ebay thing you guys speak of, in fact I often use it. *gasp*
I know it's convenient, saves times, and all that jazz. But I guess I have enough free time on my hands to be able to check for better deals if I want to (which I often do). Yeah there are sellers I've purchased things from in the past but that doesn't mean they have multiple items I want, at prices I'm willing to pay. Sometimes they don't even have video games regularly in stock. I don't mind using this one nifty feature where you display "price + shipping: lowest first" and if the results don't satisfy me, I'll see what the auctions ending soonest have to offer (although more than likely if a game's buy it now is expensive, then the ending auction price will be as well, just as long as they don't have to pay the buy it now price, buyers will jack the price up anyway). More than likely if it's "too much" for me, I'll check Racketboy (again I have plenty of time) or half, amazon or even just wait and see if I come across it at Goodwill or something. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with ebay or people who use it. I'm just saying quit freakin bitching.

I've noticed some of the crazy prices Canadian sellers get on ebay, most of those games even at buy it now can be had from the USA with shipping for much cheaper.Zing wrote:The difference is that I can go on Ebay, find the item I want within a couple minutes, click "buy" with no haggling, accepting a deal on terms that are clearly specified, and I can usually have the game on its way to me the following day.
