It's not a PC game, it's pen and paper. It famously lacks a combat system but has anal rape tables in relation to penis size. Many tables.

Ah!, that makes more sense now.
That definitely takes it out of the running then. I'm just counting "video" RPG games.

One more thing about ratings, I still like and prefer a pro/con list to a point system,
...however, the 3-way "Stop", "Caution", "GO", reviews from Defunctgames are pretty nice. That's really all you look for in a review, whether they recommend the game or not.

What I look in a review is to be informed about what the game is so I can make an informed decision. Just telling someone wether you think something is good or bad is pretty poor in my opinion.

I'll revise:

That's really all you look for in a review, Why they recommend or discourage a game.
(Hence my preferred pro/con list)

But some people (evidently a lot) prefer being told simply good or bad. Initially, that's not a terrible thing, as I would definitely take a trusted friend's opinion into account. But when it comes to a critic that you've never met...

However, people ask for simple recommendations all the time, like a good dish to order at a restaurant. That doesn't make it a poor option, or even a sure thing. People just want a short and sweet choice to keep things simple (assuming they want to try something new).

I tried to think of an RPG but I seriously can't think of one that everyone hates.

I, personally, can come up with reasons why I don't like what are considered "the best" RPGs. Some gameplay mechanics just get in the way of my enjoying the game.

Yep, even the most well loved RPG's have their "Anti-Fans". We could even flip this topic on its head and ask if there are any games that everyone likes (and get the same answer most likely).

It really just comes down to whether you like the virtual world that you find yourself in. Gameplay mechanics definitely play a part in that. But it either works for you or it doesn't.

I'm going to chime in again and state that a lot of older "bad" RPGs still have a lot of charm. Secret of the Stars (which I mentioned earlier), Drakken, Beyond the Beyond, Ephemeral Fantasia, Evergrace, Heroes of the Lance, Fatal Labyrinth, Hydlide, Lagoon, Quest 64, and Aidyn Chronicles all fall into that "so bad it's (almost) good" category. I get a kick out of playing them, just like I get a kick out of playing something like Bad Dudes.

The only current series of RPGs that I truly despise is Kingdom Hearts, which just feels so phony and uninspired. Seems to exist solely as a quick way for Square Enix and Disney to make a buck. Tetsuya Nomura's character designs are absolutely horrendous too. I know SE still has the potential to make a great game (4 Heroes of Light was awesome), so I wish they would stop wasting their time with this crap.
