So who can recommend some good J-Pop or J-Rock?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Rookiez is punk'd - Complications

2nd opening song from Durarara. I found and favorited a translated official music video on Youtube about 3 months back, but it seems like the band actively pulls their videos from Youtube.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

So fucking metal, or so fucking cute?

You decide.

Baby Metal: Doki Doki Morning

I love when Japan runs Western culture through a blender and everything just feels wrong in my head, but still kind of feels right too.

I have a whole bunch of VG and Anime J-Pop from the late 90's in the BST thread (it's WAY down the list at this point as I haven't updated it with new stuff just yet).

Still, I think my faves are Dreams Come True (doricomu) and some band I can't find the CD for so I can't remember their name. All-girl band that just kicks butt. Fantastic drummer and bass player. I will dig around and see if I can't come up with it. That one I can't find is NOT in the BST thread and never will be.

I downloaded Hatsune Miku: Supercell.
Vocaloid technology is really cool. It's trippy to know that the singer is synthesized entirely out of sampled syllables and high tech gadgetry.

I like Gackt's pre-Diabolos stuff (the Diabolos songs and later started becoming too formulaic). Songs like Lust of Blood and Emu for my Dear are two good starting points. I'd avoid his Engrish songs, though. Dude's got an exceptional voice that suits singing and screaming, but his diction is a dealbreaker.

Maximum The Hormone is also pretty good listen in short bursts. You're probably already familiar with them if you watched the Death Note anime, since they're responsible for the opening and ending themes (What's Up, People, and Zetsubou Billy).

For females, aside from the ones already mentioned above (like Yuki, and JAM - check out "Brand New Upper Ground"), I would also recommend Go!Go!7188, The Brilliant Green and its vocalist's side projects, Tommy February 6 and Tommy Heavenly 6. I've only heard one song from Yaida Hitomi, Chain, but it's really, really good in spite of the Engrish in the chorus.

The Suzan Neverland

In contrast to most of the highly produced jpop elsewhere in this thread, here's a low-fi DIY kind of band. Still charming, but not the perfect pristine fantasy popstars you're used to.

I don't know if these have been mentioned already, but here's a couple of my favorites:
