Really liked this one. Plenty of solid titles. I'll have to check out one or two from your list. Micro Machines seems like a pretty under rated title. Ever since I got it for my game boy I've loved it. I own it for four different systems now.Satoshi_Matrix wrote:Hey guys, been super busy lately and I know you've been waiting for this, so here's the long awaited

A little weirded out Micro Machines placed so high, but I was glad to see RCR finally appear. One of the most well-written action games at the time! *BARF!*

MicroMachines may seem a little strange placing so high since its unlicensed and all it is nevertheless one of the best games for the system and its a downright shame there isn't a Famicom counterpart.pakopako wrote:A little weirded out Micro Machines placed so high, but I was glad to see RCR finally appear. I'm just going to give this a tiny bump. I'm sure racketeers would love this, so I'm hoping the lack of replies doesn't reflect lack of interest.

good list this time, really wanted to play Famicom wars but I figured it would require some Japanese. Crisis Force looks like fun, but that's pretty expensive.
I'm a little surprised to see power blade so high on the list.

If you know how to play Advance Wars, getting into Famicom Wars isn't really all that difficult. In fact, there are only minor differences between them. Language barriers be damned.
Re: SM's Top 100 NES/Famicom games
I like LotW. It is a tight-knit, very deep dungeon-crawler with a rather annoying jump... excuse me, falling physics. But with all the back-tracking you have to do (from using Pochi to scout before the other family members and finally going for the Dragon with Roan, to be placed at #19? (One shy of the greatest - though not perfect - JRPG on the console without a mention of the port they did with Ultima3.)
Nice to see Recca get mentioned. Not sure if it's going to place at this point though. (Love the "THIS I COMMAND" shout-out.)
The Famicom Wars advert was a trip to behold; would have been awesome had that been an ad for Advance Wars. I am a bit surprised at how highly it rates because as an avid AW fan, FW is incredibly lackluster. Downright boring almost. (Although the high-level AI is brutal.) And the same goes for its cousins GBwars and Nectaris, and fellow NES strategy game Conflict. All are great games with huge maps... but incredibly slow pacing. By contrast, AW has much smaller maps, unit merging, and with CO powers and abilities, faster-pacing and a more diverse experience.
I also want to add that I think I'm the only person in the world who likes some of the MMC5 audio over the VRC6. I will give that VRC6 sounds a lot more detailed -- "Aquarius", "Mad Forest", and "Dead Beat" are gobs better -- but in removing the detail, some of the bass and echo effects are more pronounced such as in "Beginning" and to a lesser extent "Clockwork".
A misspelling in the SMB section aside, $2-6 for the cart? I thought some people were giving it out for pennies? (Or was that the SMB/Duck Hunt compilation?)
Funny, but I had never seen a stacked dual-CRT for Punch-Out!! (complete with racier names) in arcades. Was the top screen really needed? (Also, MTPO!! was a little more than just a rhythm game. Check out Brian Sulpher's FAQ to see just how much more.
And another fun fact about Power Blade -- the localization team was likely just one guy.
You've been playing "Anniversary Collection" too much Satoshi -- in Mega Man 3, it's still B-shoot, A-jump, and it's down and A causes Megaman to slide.
Hope to see Nightshade get a mention, even though it's a pretty long shot this far in.

Along with the "cling to ceilings and move on walls" bit, the NES version nixes his thrown knives and saddles him with a crappy melee weapon.Beyond the typical whip wielding Belmont, Castlevania III has three additional playable characters that play vastly different from Trevor. There is Grant the thief, nimble in the air, able to move faster, cling to move on walls and throw an infinite supply of knives.
