What good does that do anyone when you're outputting the sound to a $150 TV's built-in speakers?Jamisonia wrote:flamepanther wrote:Also GBA Microisiolia wrote:What I was more specifically thinking of, however (and noted) was the dropping of backwards compatibility from a machine that had it originally. Technically, I guess, this wasn't the first time, since they also did it when they launched the DSi.
To those wondering how the PSOne was a downgrade, I'm pretty certain some of the older models had superior sound. Also, the parallel port that was removed had been useful to me in playing imported games. The slim PS2 was a downgrade as well, as it removes support for the hard drive. The newer "super slim" removes support for many third-party PS1 memory cards.
This is supposedly true. When looking for Digital Audio mods, I have read that the an original PS1, SCPH-1000s, once modified to output digital audio, are supposed to rival $500 CD players of the era.

Well, if your PS1 still has the direct A/V-out RCA jacks, it's easy to hook them up to a fancy-schmancy home theater sound system instead. But of course the PSOne removed those too.BoringSupreez wrote:What good does that do anyone when you're outputting the sound to a $150 TV's built-in speakers?
Re: Revised Wii system
The 1001 series PlayStation also had standard composite out so you could hook it up to your sound system directly.BoringSupreez wrote: What good does that do anyone when you're outputting the sound to a $150 TV's built-in speakers?
damn flamepanther beat me.
Also, I think it is about time for someone to rumor that Sega is getting back in the console game.

Re: Revised Wii system
I wish. If that was in the works, Sega would most definitely cancel Sonic Generations on 360 and PS3. No other game would be a more perfect launch exclusive for a new Sega console. Since it's a multi-platform release, we should (continue to) assume there's no new Sega console coming.GamerMON wrote:Also, I think it is about time for someone to rumor that Sega is getting back in the console game.

No so much, at least in terms of hard cold measurements. They do note that it still sounds good, better than they'd expect given the numbers. Also that a 7501 was inferior in their testing. That's with analog outputs...but given that the hype regarding the PSX as a CD player started there, I'd assume the general truth of it to be similar.Jamisonia wrote: This is supposedly true. Re: Revised Wii system
That interesting. I have no experience myself. It would obviously sound better once it was modified for Digital Audio, which could be only plugged into a stereo or home theater setup. The original PlayStation's have a host of other issues though, like their unreliable plastic lens assembly.
Re: Revised Wii system
Yeah, I've got a 1001 from when it came out, but I've never messed with it as an audio player. I have had it screw up in-game audio though.

From the article you linked:
What are Ayre Myrtle Block isolation feet? They're magical wooden blocks that somehow improve your music.Three Ayre Myrtle Block isolation feet, placed between the bottom of the very lightweight PS1 and its surroundings, had no apparent effect on its performance.

The sad part is that audiophiles actually pay money for this kind of voodoo. Don't trust the opinion of anyone who'd pay fifteen dollars for wooden blocks, or anyone who uses the word "musicality."You'll be captivated with the improved musicality these wood blocks provide! At this price, what do you have to lose? Try this Stereophile Recommended product out for yourself!
“The [Ayre] Myrtle Blocks happen to be designed and made by Cardas, in accordance with the ‘Golden-Section Ratio’ (each block measures 0.618” by 1” by 1.61”). Unlike other things that come and go in less than a season’s time, I’m still using the Ayre Myrtle Blocks; they remain my favorite and most heartily recommended cheap tweak!”

Re: Revised Wii system
Its just direct extra RCA and Composite Jacks
This keeps coming up, audiophiles are fooled by the extra jacks putting out the bad info. The audio quality on the PSX 1001s are no different then later models. they just have the extra jacks, the same lines are in any standard PS1-PS2 cable connection. The audio is analog either way. Earlier PS1 models also have FMV skipping issues, fixed on later models. A big plus for the earlier PS1s is the utility cart port, the 5000s are the best having a parallel port, serial port for link gaming, fixed FMV and the "screen saver" CD player.
Say how did this Nintendo Thread jump over to Playstation?

Re: Revised Wii system
Since the PS3 wasn't powerful enough to emulator the PS2 I doubt the Wii U will be able to emulate the gamecube....then again it will be backwards compatible with the wii, so same thing?
