If you like to gamble - collecting complete Saturn games is fun because you never know if your case will crack in transit.
I won a great auction for a never played Street Fighter Alpha 2 (it was mint) but damn if that case didnt crack a bit. The good part is you can subit out with a lesser game's case, and still get a bit of your auction back.
I'll speak to the Fighters - the gamepad is a great and I also have the arcade stick (which is mammoth). Collecting PS1 games when they were released - I've gone back and sought out Saturn versions of everything (Marvel, Street Fighter, X-Men, etc). Just blows their ps1 equivalent away.
Saturn + 4 in 1 + S Video = WIN

Not if you're buying JPN games.retrosportsgamer wrote:If you like to gamble - collecting complete Saturn games is fun because you never know if your case will crack in transit.
No idea on price lists between regions. I'm just personally familiar with JPN prices and somewhat familiar with NA prices.

The PAL version is cheaper, but it's still gonna set you back £90-120, or anywhere between about $US140-190.itsmattxp wrote:Can I still play it with the 4 in 1 action replay? Also Is there a list that shows which version of the games are cheaper, for instance, like you just said that the PAL version is cheaper that the NTSC-U version of Panzer Dragoon Saga.dunpeal2064 wrote:Panzer Draggon and Zwei are both rail shooters, so you are good.
Panzer Dragoon Saga is really pricey in the states, but importing the PAL version is much more affordable

Wow really? I have seen more than one in the $60 area for a PAL copy. Hell, you can find NA copies going for less than $190. Its all about patience.alienjesus wrote:The PAL version is cheaper, but it's still gonna set you back £90-120, or anywhere between about $US140-190.itsmattxp wrote:Can I still play it with the 4 in 1 action replay? When was that? 0_0
On eBay UK atm, we have one copy on buy it now at £120, one with 1 bid at £150 (why didn;t they just Buy It Now?), and one with a starting bid of £120 or a BIN of £170. Completed listings range from £82-200.
Even though this is pricier than I've seen it in ages, 100 or so is about average.
For comparison, £80-200 is between about $130 and $320

Good god. It was maybe less than a year ago. Now I really really reeeally regret not buying it. I thought they went generally low compared to the NA version, but it looks like they are up there too!alienjesus wrote:dunpeal2064 wrote:

Hmm... it could have said 60(pounds?) instead of dollars. Still seems a steal compared to ebay prices right now.

£60 seems more feasible. That would still have been a great deal!dunpeal2064 wrote:Good god. It was maybe less than a year ago. Now I really really reeeally regret not buying it. Re: What should I collect next? Sega Saturn or Super Nintendo?
I personally only collect JP games if they weren't released in the U.S., and so taking that into consideration (since I had no idea how you collected) I voted for the SNES. It's much cheaper to build a quality library of $30 and under games and have a ton of gems. In fact, I'd say most of the great games on the SNES are cheaper than the great games on the Saturn, but being that I mostly focus on RPGs and horror games, my opinion could be a bit skewered. Think about this tho:
SNES:
Earthbound - $100
Aero Fighters - $100
EVO - $60~80
Noah's Ark - $50+
Harvest Moon - $60
Mega Man 7 - $60+
Chrono Trigger - $50
Mega Man X3 - $40+
Final Fight Guy - $40+
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy - $40+
Super Mario RPG - $40
Some pricey Soccer game - $50? (I know there's a fairly pricey Soccer game, but I can never remember the title)
SATURN:
Panzer Dragoon Saga - $150+
Shining the Holy Ark - $100
Burning Rangers - $80+
Guardian Heroes - $60~80
Magic Knight Rayearth - $50~80
Shining the Holy Ark - $50
Albert Odyssey - $50
Dragon Force - $50~100
Bomberman - $60+
Mega Man X4 & 8 - $60+
That's just U.S. releases. The thing about imports is that, while the SNES has some pricey ones, you can mostly just skip them (in the case of Rendering Ranger, you might have to - I never see that game anywhere), but with the Saturn, the imports are the whole point and so many of the good ones are over $30 (just compared to the SNES). Heck even the good pricey SNES imports are usually around $30 or under (Violinst no Hameln, DoReMi Fantasy) with just a few breaking over that threshold (Undercover Cops, for instance). I don't think there's a whole slew of import SFC games in the $100+ region, but I could be wrong since I don't really collect outside of RPGs and horror games, mostly. I mean, yeah, Umihara Kawase, R2, Fire Emblem Thracia 777, but what else? And like I said, they're mostly skipable.

Re: What should I collect next? Sega Saturn or Super Nintendo?
Late to the party, sorry guys. I could have sworn I had already posted in this thread.
Anyways, I definetly say SNES. SNES is one of the greatest consoles ever created. A masterpiece of 2D gaming proportions. That's not to say Saturn is bad, I love my Saturn. But I like my SNES more.
-SNES is very reliable hardware. Short of smashing it, dropping it from high place, burning it, or submerging it; it's pretty hard to break one. I've even heard stories of submersion or dropping it from high places and they survived.
-Awesome controller. SNES's button placement and curvature of the controller makes it one of the most comfortable and easy to use controllers out there.
-Most importantly, the game library. SNES has an incredible library of 2D gaming classics. And between the big 3 of the era (SNES, Genesis, & TurboGrafx-16), SNES had the best sound and graphics on the multiplatform titles the majority of the time.
My personal favorite SNES games:
-Actraiser
-Cool Spot
-Contra III: The Alien Wars
-The Death & Return of Superman (the only good Superman game other than the arcade)
-Donkey Kong Country 1-3
-The Illusion of Gaia
-The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (the best LoZ game, IMO)
-Marvel Super-Heroes: War of the Gems
-Maximum Carnage (Spider-Man & Venom)
-Mega Man X 1-3
-Mortal Kombat 2 & 3
-Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (collects all 3 NES Ninja Gaiden games)
-Raiden
-Separation Anxiety (Spider-Man & Venom)
-Samurai Shodown
-Street Fighter Alpha 2
-Super Castlevania IV
-Super Mario All-Stars (collects Super Mario Bros. 1-3 & the Japanese SMB 2)
-Super Mario Kart
-Super Mario World (the best Mario game, IMO)
-Super Metroid (the best Metroid game, IMO)
-Super R-Type
-Super Street Fighter II
-X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse

Not true. I've had careless sellers send things that have cracked in puff mailers. (ALWAYS ask if you can have your stuff mailed out in BOXES.)Breetai wrote:Not if you're buying JPN games.retrosportsgamer wrote:If you like to gamble - collecting complete Saturn games is fun because you never know if your case will crack in transit. They come in regular jewel cases.
