It reminds me of the 16-bit Psygnosis titles which is just about as high praise as I can bestow on a 2D game. I thought the first boss fight against the mosquito was cute as all get out, but I did not enjoy the flight on his back afterward.
Anyone have an idea how long it takes to play through the game? I'd like to budget my time with it to be finished by month's end...
didn't MIND the flight on his back, but I hated the level with the rising water where you have to keep planting seeds. It's such a short level but it took me forever to beat it for some reason.

I'm not sure how long it would take me to beat the game now, but back in the day it took forever. You have to collect all the electoons in every level to access the final level, boss, and credits.

Ugh. My interest level just dropped severely. I hate games that force you to get 100%.

WHAT? Are you serious? You may have just completely diminished all interest I have in this game. I love platformers, but I fucking hate collect-a-thons.

I am dead serious. I didn't even know until I got to the second to final level. I don't think this is a PC only thing either.
EDIT: Don't let it discourage you too much. You can always play up to the near end and quit.
Some levels have to be replayed to get all the electoons free after you get more powers.

It is not just PC as now I remember I did this on the Saturn version.
And indeed you don't even have a chance to get all on your first go - there are some quite near the start that I tried several times to get but you really need extra moves to get them.
Ivo.

Don't remember any of that, but that actually sounds like fun to me. The levels are pretty short and it always feels good to be able to reach a place in a level you couldn't before to unlock that next place you have to get to. Rayman is such a great game that this is a plus in my book... if any game becomes a chore or if someone wants it to be "short" just so they can get through it ("I've beaten 'Rayman'! Along with 700 other games!") I would say don't even bother and try something you can really get immersed in. My recommendation though is to stick to it as there's so much to this game that very unique and interesting compared to other platformers, and plus you can always just quit after all the levels have been seen.

haha, that's really not my MO. I just think collect-a-thons are the laziest device in game design.

Heh. No final boss for me it seems.
Really I hate it when developers do that, but the game is so beautiful and fun that I think it would be stupid to not at least play all the levels I can.
