Making a custom weapon selection has really helped me out tremendously.

Haha, the version you have is not simply titled Parodius.NebachadnezzaR wrote:Are you sure? Check this out:Breetai wrote:No such compilation exists. As far as I know, the only Parodius released in Europe was Parodius Da!. It was just called Parodius.NebachadnezzaR wrote:@Breetai, the version I have is simply title Parodius, but from what I've gathered it's the european version of a compilation of Gokujo Parodius and Parodius Da. I think that's the right one.

I don't have my Saturn plugged in right now so I can't check, but even the back cover of the game says "two great arcade shooters". It doesn't specify which ones, but it's definitely not just Parodius Da.
How??? When you kill a line of enemies at the beginning of the stage, you get a red jewel thing to pick up. Hit the button to select your weapon option right away, and you can speed up. I like to have a couple speed ups, missiles, then options and laser.noiseredux wrote:I get to right around the beginning of stage 1.

hahaha yes, I am fully aware how Gradius games work. (PS, "beginning of stage 1" was what is known as "a joke"Breetai wrote: How??? How do yall typically handle your powerups?
I like to get a speed, ripple laser, and as many options as possible before the end of the first stage. I typically never get missiles, but I do like two or three speeds if I have the extra powerups. I also prefer trailing options over regimented.

Two speeds, a ripple, and I try to get up to the max option where you have two above you and then two below. Then I go after the two shield things that spin around the ship.fastbilly1 wrote:How do yall typically handle your powerups?

The missiles have been useful on occasion though.
Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
I honestly like the missiles for the first stage right off the bat.
Busted out my PS2 version, I'm not messing around so I started on Easiest right away again (and that's what it was set too, haha). Thought I'd be sneaky with the second eyeball boss so I ran up before he spawned to get my options over there and bam, he spawned and killed me and that was pretty much game over. lol
Looking at the Stage Select it looks like I haven't cleared stage 3.

In Europe it is, check the cover on that gamefaqs link. But anyway, who cares, what's important is that I do have Gokujo after all, you got me worried for a moment thereBreetai wrote:Haha, the version you have is not simply titled Parodius. It's Parodius Deluxe Pack. It is a compilation of the two games you mentioned. So, you play Gokujo Parodius!

Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
Wow anyone who can get past stage 3 is lying! ... lol. But seriously, if the boss kills you there's no way to get past that horrible cave section without a fair amount of power ups (vertical came in handy there).
I prefer the Force Field myself, are the two spinning shields stronger?
The hit detection is a tad annoying in this game as well. Not to mention those purple blobs kept hitting me when I was inside the second bosses bubble, whenever the purple blobs went through that the sprites would disappear so it looked like I was getting killed by nothing.

Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
I played the SNES version a little bit and was able to get to somewhere around stage 3 or so..... Then I tried my PSP version!
Suuuuuuper brutal, but I kept with it during my whole lunch break while at work. People were looking at me as I cursed in frustration over my roast beef sandwich and pretzels. I am finding it very rewarding as I slowly advance, I almost prefer the PSP version for the difficulty.
Currently stuck at the boss of the 1st level DAM SPIDERS!
