Gaming.... a "white mans" medium?

Video gaming has never struck me as part of popular black culture. I don’t believe there are many game developers who are black, I rarely encounter black players online and as other members have pointed out, many black characters are generally one dimensional and a stereotype.

Two of my friends from work are black and they are both gamers. Just for the sake of generalization (not being offensive), we've got at least brown, yellow, olive, and white people that I'm aware of posting in this thread. *shrug*

Anyway, here are some games with 'non white' leads that I can think of. Beyond Good and Evil, Unreal 2, Prey, and Spawn.

Granted, I don’t know the ethnicity of everyone who regularly contributes, but I have gotten that impression from not only this thread, but the mug shot thread and the thread about Huck Fin. I don’t think I am wrong in this assumption, but I might be.

Maybe I'm dense, but how does the Huckleberry Fin thread show that none of us are black?

The thread was primarily about the use of the word nigger, something I assume would have significance to African Americans and would want to share their opinion. I am jogging my memory, so I could be wrong, and perhaps a few did weigh in.

No, it was about the use of "nigger" by fictional racist characters to show how racism worked in the XIX century and to dismantle it.

Are we a color blind society yet? Probably never will be when there is too much worries of the "Political Correctness" in representing or offending a race, group or belief.

I never really cared about race representation in a game, not the focus for me. I just enjoy playing the Video Game.
