Liv Kristine's main band is Theatre of Tragedy. You should probably check that out sometime. I thought Vinland Saga was pretty solid too, though I haven't heard it in a looooong time.
I'd recommend giving Blind Guardian another shot sometime, especially if the material you've heard from them was from their later, more "progressive" stuff. Their earlier albums were more aggressive sounding.

Gamerforlife wrote:Never could get into Blind Guardian for some reason. The band just doesn't work for me. Odd, since I always hear people say that Iced Earth fans will love Blind Guardian. I did enjoy hearing their vocalist on Ayreon's 01011001 album though. Lot of great vocalists on that one like Jonas Renkse and Anneke van Giersbergen
Since you like Iced Earth and enjoy Blind Guardians singer singing on 01011001you should check out Demons and Wizards. Its Jon Schaffer and Hansi Kürsch side project. Like was said already early Blind Guardian is different more like speed metal, listen to Battalions of Fear and Follow the Blind.

Yeah, I do need to check out Demons and Wizards. Forgot about that
I'll probably try and give Blind Guardian another shot some time too. Hansi does have a nice, distinct voice that I like. The best vocalists are instantly recognizable to me when I hear them

I am a huge fan of Gorgoroth and Burzum. I like black metal in general, though I really hate Dimmu Bogir. Or is it Borgir? Whatever. I really like Watain though. I might go see them in New York. They're playing at a venue that I absolutely love.
I also like some Japanese metal bands like Versailles, Phantasmagoria and MUCC, although MUCC isn't so metal, but I don't know what else to call them.

Listening to a few tracks from Sons of Liberty's Brush-fires of the mind and it seems as enjoyable to me as a lot of Iced Earth's stuff. Content wise, this is rather controversial stuff from Jon Schaffer. Though it shouldn't shock anyone who is familiar with conspiracy theories and I've pretty much heard them all. Jekyll Island is a killer track and The Cleansing Winds is quite enjoyable to listen to. As a vocalist, he's no Barlow, but he's not bad

Schaffer's the man, anyone who doesn't care about Iced Earth, well, it's their loss I'd say. I think Schaffer and the members of the band Kamelot live in Florida, which is cool because so do I
I want to add to this topic Pyramaze's Immortal album with Matt Barlow. Epic stuff, I might check out their other albums too

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Overkill, but I remember the lead singer used to live in my town (although he might still) and his wife used to own a German chocolate shop that he would her with sometimes. I never saw him around town, but all my friends did

Well I don't particularly care for Iced Earth at all. So ha.
