Sorry if i glossed over this somewhere earlier in the thread. But does anyone know how to get it to run on Windows 7 x64. I have the collectors edition and I get sound but no picture.

And +1 for the 1st Advance Wars over the others.

I know that, but for convenience I'd like to run the windows version. It worked fine on XP, but I can't get it to run on 7. And it runs kinda crappy on dosbox for me.

Odd that it runs crappy in dosbox. I have had no issues on 7, xp, or Ubuntu in dosbox. What version of dosbox and where did you get the game?

I started a new game with friends on Saturday night, just goofing off. I sent the guys out of the ship and on the second round lost half of them. It has been years since I actually put time into Xcom, but thats just rough. And dont you worry, I took out the little guys. Go go SWAT tactics.

I am starting to get the hang of this thing. I spent most of the weekend trying to beat one terror zone without losing more than half of my squad. It was a night mission and I forgot to equip flares. Doh. I ended up losing 5/8 but keeping my tank, good enough for me. After that I was able to complete a few UFO landings without much difficulty. We'll see how I do on the next terror zone.

So am I missing something in the documentation, or is the tech tree not detailed anywhere? It would be nice to know which techs do what, so I can plan effectively.

Also, fastbilly, how are you playing with friends? Is there a multiplayer mode I don't know about?

Sorry, there is no multiplayer mode. We just hooked up my netbook to the nearby 50inch TV and started playing it as a team. Someone would say "Lets put a guy in Overwatch by that tree" and others would say "that sounds like a good idea, then they cant sneak up on us from behind that ridge." So technically one person was playing it and taking advice from the rest of us. It lasted a few rounds then we switched to Star Control 2 and before we knew it it was well into the next day.

Rebelstar Tactical Command actually has a 2 Player VS mode which is really sweet... I'm planning a nice big blog post about this game once I complete it. I'm on Chapter 15 right now.

Do tell Noise, is it hot swap, single cart, or multi cart? I see a copy at my local stores occasionally.

That is correct; the tech tree isn't really detailed well. You'll have to go on GameFAQs, though a lot of the tree can be explained fairly easily; you research a weapon and it's ammo to be able to use and manufacture the weapon. You research the various UFO components to be able to build UFOs.

1 cart, 1 GBA -- players take turns.

(AKA so perfect for the GBPlayer).
