Hola --

I've been posting to the forums for a bit, so here is my proper introduction.

I'm 32 and in a marriage based upon the principle we are not having children. Before my parents were impoverished, they purchased an Atari 2600 and an Atari 800 -- which, like many things introduced in childhood, informed my tastes. After that, came the destitution in which I did not own a computer or game for the next decade. When others were going to college, I was taknig care of my parents and stumbled into the tech industry. Being around a gaggle of nerds and geeks rekindled my love for all gaming things: computer games, console games, board games... With a disposable income, I began buying systems to support my Bomberman addiction. While I initially bought these systems for Bomberman, soon I discovered other titles which made me a complete console addict. Party games, in particular, are a favorite of mine -- gathering friends around to play some frantic Chu Chu Rocket, or idiotically dance with Samba de Amigo, remain a habit.

On the computer, I'm particularly taken with the Worms series -- at least until it made the transition to 3D, which I consider a mistake. While games like Civilization and their ilk still appeal to me, they simply require a time investment I'm not willing to make. I much prefer simulation games that operate in a chapter mode, such as Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Knowing how to solder, trace circuit boards, and perform general repairs tempted me into the purchase of a pinball machine. Funhouse, which was an addiction in high-school, which I would play at a local pizza joint/bar, teased me. As a child, going to arcades, you always wanted to own a real arcade game. Suddenly, as an adult, I realized it was possible. Thus began another addiction which now consumes most of my basement -- 16 pinball machines and four video cabinets. The price of pinball machines, even those which are broken and criminally trashed, have soared since I entered the hobby -- which has certainly curtailed the acquisition of other machines (space is another issue).

My other gaming hobby is that of designer boardgames. Boardgames and cardgames are presently in a renaissance -- the games are engaging, relatively simple to learn, and are vastly more tactical and strategic than the crap we had when growing up. Part of what I enjoy about it is the simple gathering of friends to play -- the more a game fosters social interaction, the happier I am. To illustrate my obsessive nature, I have over 700 of these alone -- consuming an entire 30 foot wall in the basement, and a small alcove. I highly recommend anyone who likes strategy games of any type, or social interaction, to give them a try. Play many newish and popular titles online at http://www.brettspielwelt.de . Germany is at the forefront of this movement, and thus the site is heavily influenced by that language -- still, most of it has been translated to english and is quite usable.

So, those are games. Like everyone else, I enjoy music and veer towards that nebulous thing called Dance music (techno, trip-hop, acid jazz -- whatever); I like music that sets a mood, sustains it, and doesn't bug my brain with poorly written lyrics.

I do pen & ink illustration on the side, with a little water-color -- more in the tradition of classical illustrators such as Lee Brown Coye and Virgil Finlay. I read a great deal -- fiction in fits, but mostly historical non-fiction. My wife has an obsession of animals, and hopes to enter some career involving critters of all kinds -- to that end, our house is partially a zoo.

My real name is Jon :)

PS: I should also say that Racketboy has been an invaluable resource to me. As mentoined, unless I was playing at a friends house, I didn't touch video game consoles. I tend to like simple games -- quick to pick up, but deep and engaging gameplay. These kind of games are at the forefront of the 16 and 32 bit eras. Racketboy, or more particularly, the people who frequent this site have introduced me to a wealth of titles I would not, otherwise, have known about. The few SHMUPS I played in the arcade I did not enjoy, but now I'm utterly addicted -- Radiant Silvergun, Under Defeat, Gigawing 2... so many. You guys are filling in my catalog of all those great titles I missed. Thank you!

Just curious, what got you into the Saturn? I'm just asking since you must have been pretty young when it came out :)
But anyway, welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the site!

We (my family) got a saturn around '95 I believe. There were many games out there that I liked, but what hooked me was daytona USA. Yeah, I guess I was 4 at the time. I've been playing video games since I could hold the controller. The Sad thing was, my bio father had sold it. which really sucked. Skip I dunno 8 years in the future. Of course, I bought another one about a few years ago to make up for what my collection lacked for so long. And again, I was hooked. When ever I see a game I don't have in one of the select few used game dealers, I get it. I know I've talked a lot without giving much an answer, honestly I don't know why I love it so much. I just do  My main hunt right now is Sonic Jam, but I can't find a working backup, or the actual thing :/

Well that's cool :) It's encouraging to have a younger member around here that actually appreciates games of an older vintage.
As for Sonic Jam, go ahead and post a request in the Downloads section of the forum and maybe someone will help you out.
If you still need help down the line, I can dig up the DVD that I have it on and upload it myself

I am 23, Male, from Delhi in India. The only consoles i came across during my teenage years were the NES and the TG16. Most of the memorable games i played were at the arcades and on my old 386 pc around 15 yrs back. My favourites were platformers like prince and gods, and those classic adventures games by Sierra and Lucasarts. Back in those days getting any news games at my place was tough, but of course the times have changed now for the better......I am not too keen on new games.....but thanks to emulation, i have been able to play hundreds of old style console games for free:)........

I'm a college student from Texas. When I moved away from home, my family kept our Gamecube, but I got to take the Saturn, so I've been working to get some sweet stuff for it. Saturn Bomberman's a lot of fun in the dorm where there's a lot of people to play with.
I never had a game console growing up. We did have a Game Boy and a computer, and apparently when we first bought the Game Boy, I would get too much into the game and my parents would have to take it away. I liked to play SNES and NES at friends's houses, and my dad would rent a Genesis or N64 every once in a while for us to play.
I would play Saturn at my grandparent's house when my uncle was living there, and he would let us borrow it every once in a while. I have a lot of good memories playing Saturn on the projection TV downstairs while popping Atomic Fireball candies.
My mom finally gave in when Santa got us a Gamecube the winter after it came out. There's been some good games out for it like F-Zero GX and Super Smash Bros., but especially lately, I haven't been that impressed with the selection. Retro games usually have a bit more appeal.
A year or two ago, my uncle lent me the Saturn I used to play on, so I've been slowly getting some nice games. I, like many here, often enjoy reading and talking about old games as much as I like playing them. This site has been one of my favorite places to hear about that for a while, although I only recently joined the forums. I hope that I can continue to learn more about cool retro games and contribute what I can to conversations here.

Lol, I didn't even see this sticky here :)
I recently (about 3 days ago) got my modded saturn from a seller who had quite a good reputation. It worked perfectly, so i have been playing all the great 2D imports I can. This is actually the main reason for coming here. I have always been interested in sega consoles, but really never cared enough to buy this. I then saw that someone was selling a freshly modded one with lots of nice extras. I was kindof interested and thought I might get a few answers outta the guy. Well, once I got my fill of info, I fortunately received a 100 dollar check from me grandma! So about two days later I sent the money and eventually got it. I was also fortunate enough to find a boxed 3D controller for less than 10 bucks! It works perfectly and, besides the gamecube controller, is the best controller I have used! I have had fun during my romps in Metal Slug and wandering around the castle in Dracula X. Being the shooter fanatic I am, I was glad to see arcade perfect versions of the first three salamander games, sexy parodius, and quite a few others. One of my happiest purchases in a while. I have always loved Sonic R, despite its flaws, and have bought it twice (PC and GCN) so I figure playing mostly Japanese games and supporting the games when they get rereleased seemed fair enough to me to play a few burned games. I also plan on getting some real copies of common games if I can.

This addition brings my gaming collection to an even bigger size!
GCN+51 individual games, not counting demos. (+I have component cables and both zelda special discs!)
SNES+13 individual games (contra 3 CIB!)
NES+11 individual games (all but 3 CIB!)
GBC+11 individual games
GBA+21 individual games
NDS+11 individual games (including nanostray!)
Saturn+no actual copies, just burns >.>
So I have a quite nice collection atm.

Did I also mention I am a teenager? Yep, even though I am one of those crazy peeps, I still love retro gaming at its finest! Ironically, I am also a pretty big audio and videophile. I currently have a 27" LCD HDTV! Really nice for even SNES! NES looks for craps on it tho  but its alright. My Parents have a 30" flat screen CRT which is superb for playing anything in 4:3 and old! Saturn just looks awesome!

Racketboy may remember seeing me nick over at the Emuasylum forums! If so, hiya!

Not only am I a retro and contemporary gamer, I am an avid arcade gamer, mainly for the likes of metal slug and light gun games. I also like cartoons in general and am a bit of a tech/computer wiz.

Well, I hope to have lots of fun here, and hope you guys enjoy me stay
