which console is the most reliable... which is the worst.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

All of my consoles work great because I barely use them!

Seriously, my most used consoles (PS2, SNES, Genesis, PC Engine) get used for maybe 50 hours per year.

Of all of my systems, these are the only somewhat significant problems i've had.

-Colecovision: Totally lost video on the unit. Had it fixed by a "professional" and then the picture was only black and white and the unit reset after about 5 minutes.

-Sega CD: Gradually started resetting itself during gameplay. First time would happen after about 30 minutes, then each reset afterwards would come gradually quicker.

-Game Gear: Caps. Lost audio. Didn't even bother fixing it, just bought another one for a few bucks and figured i'd use the old one for parts.

-Original Playstation: Gradually stopped reading discs, although didn't seem to matter if it was a brand new disc or a scratched-to-death rental, it was pretty random in which ones it would read.

-360: Some minor disc drive errors. Drive wouldn't open unless there was a disc in there. Gradually it stopped reading discs, but it was fixed pretty easily.

I did have a friend who was borrowing a 360 and it red ringed on him. So he returned it and bought another for the guy and one for himself. His red ringed within a week, so he returned it for another one that red ringed after a year. Returned it for another one which he sold a year or so later, and that one red ringed on the new owner within a month. I'd have to say it's probably the worst in terms of reliability. Although the two i've had have held up quite well.

Any of the cartridge systems are pretty reliable. But I still haven't even had to clean my SNES. So i'd put that up there for most reliable.
