Actually you can hook up a 32X to any Sega CD.

Neither, what I meant was that any Genesis/Mega Drive model and any Sega CD/Mega CD model can be used in conjunction with any 32X system given you have each individual piece of hardware regardless of if it's a model 1 or 2 system.

You'll still need the spacer to setup a 32X on a Model 2 Genesis or the AV Conversion cable to use it on a Model 1 Genesis though.

btw i got a japanese Mega CD and Japanese 32x - so im assuming i need a japanese megadrive.

is the megadrive region free - or can you do what you do with the saturn and buy a cart or something that allows u to play imports?

90% of all Japanese games will work on a US Genesis after you widen the cart slot with a dremel or other tool to accomodate the differently shaped cartridges as only very few games used region protection.

However if you plan on always leaving the 32X hooked up you can use a Japanese Mega Drive (Get an early Model 1 for the best audio and video quality of any Genesis/Mega Drive!) and effectively use the 32X as a passthrough for US games without the need for any modifications.

ok so basically, get the model 1 Jap Megadrive - this will hook up to my model 2 Sega CD

and then i can run the jap 32x with it - and this addition on top will let me run US/Jap games all region free? does this matter for CDs as well?

IIRC for Mega Drive/Genesis and 32X titles yes, but all CD titles are region locked.

That is a great setup man. I am extremely jealous of the boxed 3D0. I have an FZ-10, but have been looking for one of those models that you've got. Be sure to grab up star control 2 for that bad boy, hours of fun to be had on that game.

I think i had star control 2 back in the day on the megadrive - is that the one with the urqan dreadnaught and all those ships in a death match?

thats prolly the only game on the 3do worth getting right? what games do u have that you would recommend?
